“Configuration files buried within some versions of Mac OS X show evidence that the next iMac and Mac mini will indeed be based on the NVIDIA MCP79 chipset. Apple recently switched their MacBook, MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models to the NVIDIA chipsets in October. Amongst other benefits, the new notebooks have much improved graphics card capabilities, which make them more suitable to take advantage of OpenCL technologies coming in Snow Leopard,” Arnold Kim reports for MacRumors.
“Apple will apparently be bringing these improvements to both the new iMac and Mac mini. While many have expected the iMac to receive these upgrades, the fate of the Mac mini has been less certain,” Kim reports.

Slash Lane reports for AppleInsider, “Also of interest is that the entries for the new iMac and Mac mini are dated 2008, which may provide evidence to support claims that these systems were originally targeted for a release in the November time frame but were pushed into the first quarter of the year due to unexpected delays.”

> will they be available right away or will they come out in April?
April.
thanks ken1w!
i was thinking April too bc the the verison of this iMac was released in April 2008 so it won’t even be a year which is kinda short….
I got mine in August… and already want a new one LOL

2008 – Apr., then wait 9? months till
2009 – Jan.
I’m hoping Phil announces, on Jan 6th — a 20″ iMac, with a 24bit LCD. Available, Jan 2009.
Will they employ firewire?
Okay.
I’m hoping Phil announces, on Jan 6th — a 20″ iMac, with a 24bit LCD, and atleast one FW port. Available, Jan 2009.
Here is a Apple product prognose webpage (in dutch).
But this means the scrolling wave problem on the new Macbooks will now be brought to the whole line of Apple computers? Lame. Nvidia needs to do their homework better and make their chips actually WORK with Macs, not disrupt the Mac user experience. Surprised someone hasn’t solved this yet. Message boards are filled with Nvidia chip complaints.
It isnt like the 80s and 90s innovating, now its putting things in a thin box, regardless of quality or performance. They KNOW the nvidia chips are bad and will die, but they want planed obsolescence. Just like any other computer company.
Where did “Think Different” go apple? Hm?
I cant wait for the Mac Mini to be using merom when Core i7 is cheap.
I will only update my iMac if it came out with an LED display in January LOL
I got the top line already and dont need more than that unless its got Blu Ray, Intel Quad chip or LED display hehe ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />
So… What does this mean in terms of video out? Particularly on the mini? Does the Nvidia chipset support displayport exclusively? How about an HDMI option? Or a converter? And would a converter pass-through HDCP compliant video? Many questions…
Hu! What a noodle brain announcement! great! Who woudn’t have thought about that one?

NO MORE GLOSS !!!
Dammit, Apple, I want a computer, not a mirror!
I love the GLOSS! I don’t have an overhead light above my iMac and love the gloss… Keep it Apple…
The colours just stand out.
Displayport would suck 🙁 I want dvi or hdmi! nothing i currently have accepts displayport input.
If the mini is supposed to be for potential switchers among others the switchers are guaranteed NOT to have displayport.

Notice the MacBook on the left. The glare off the screen is so bad you can’t even see the OS desktop!
Is this some kind of security feature?
Or do folks get an ego boost from looking at their reflection?
If Apple can’t or won’t kill the gloss, at least give us vouchers to buy anti-glare screens.

the light is directly above the screen…
…where the lights are usually placed in most rooms. And in this case, a room that’s the floor of an APPLE STORE.
Why make the glare worse inside Apple’s own retail space? Steve used to obsess and think through things better than that.
get use to it… all makes are going towards glossy screens…
All makes besides Apple are also going with Windows Vista. That doesn’t make it a good choice.
What happened to the Apple that thought different?
Somebody just came out with a Mini-DisplayPort to HDMI adaptor.
I was really hoping that the new mini would get the Nvidia chipset/GPU. I want to buy a mini for my living room TV. I already have an AppleTV setup in my boys room and it is very cool. Unfortunately I’m currently streaming to it from my wife’s old Dell and it is soooo slow. Yeah, I know, I’ve been trying to convert her to Macs for a while. I think that her Vista laptop is beginning to convince her, though, it sucks big time.
RE :: just sayin’
how much do u really know about VISTA?
tell me your experience!
I bet you never even used it… Right? Just heard about it…
I used it. I use Mac OS.
I can tell you the truth.
I I bet if Apple had 5 or more clones making Macs there be tons of conflicts – guaranteed.
If you got a story you can back up… Please tell me… I’d be happy to hear it.
I like both Operating Systems… I don’t think Vista is that bad. Ya maybe if my friend Mike updated his 5 year old system he would hate it… So would I… But my friend uses Mac and he can’t update to Mac OS 10.5… So he hates that fact.
I use 10.5 and he gets jealous at times…
