Apple today released “equal pairs of EFI and SMC firmware fixes for all of the new, late 2008 MacBook models to tackle problems with their reliability and power indicators,” Aidan Malley reports for AppleInsider.
“The updates for the regular 13-inch MacBook, MacBook Air and 15-inch MacBook Proall share virtually identical release notes, indicating solutions common to their platform rather than model-specific glitches,” Malley reports.

snappy – first
Great!
Downloaded it, and have just put it to the test.
It’s solved all the ‘sleep’ problems with my lovely new MacBook Pro (2.8 GHz)
Thank you Apple! Good job!
Does it fix the lack of a firewire port in the MacBooks?
Not only fixes the FireWire issue on the macbooks it fixes the glare on the screens!
Agree with Wondering:
A real upgrade would include, “The Return of FireWire!”
I just applied and the lid on my MacBook Air started snapping…
Mines much snappier now with it virtual Firewire port thanks to this update!
Top bananas
and Spitfires for that matter.
@Wondering
Yes it does… and it also fixes that whine I keep hearing from the likes of you.
@ poo:
Stockholme syndrome at its finest! It’s obviously not exclusive to Windoze sufferers.
my new macbook pro does firewire just fine.
I visited the Apple web site, I downloaded the firmware fix, I followed all the instructions to the letter and fixed the glare on the screen … But I can’t find the virtual Firewire port, which side should it have been added onto on my computer, left or right … there doesn’t seem enough room on the left.
What am I doing wrong? Please somebody help me.
I’m a newbie at all this techie stuff.
I need to first ask if this update seems “snappier” then before the update?
use of snappy makes you the fat kid that got picked last in kickball.
people who say snappy for the thirty thousandth time don’t get laid without paying for it.
Kickball? What are you, a caveman?
In every other part of the world it’s called ‘football’, apart from the US where they call a game where you use your hands and dress in enough armour to protect a small country football, and call football ‘soccer’
Americans are weird.
by attempting to put down Americans because of your ignorance..
Kickball is not the same as what Americans call soccer and the rest of the world calls football
Kickball is a game normally played by school age children. It is a game similar to baseball, but instead of using a bat and small ball pitched to the batter, you use a larger rubber ball with is ‘pitched’ to the kicker by rolling the ball on the ground toward the plate. The kicker the kicks the ball (hence the name of the game) and play proceeds similar in that he/she then runs the bases.
Again, know what you are talking about before you try to make others look ignorant.
You haven’t lived until you’ve played ‘extreme’ curling, man, or ironing against the clock!
@reminder,
Not exactly true. I did your mom last night and didn’t pay for it.
And she was snappy!
Cubert,
LMAO!
I know that my bat meter is screwy. Does it add firewire through Ethernet?
Just installed the MacBook updates on my iMac. It took a bit of doing, but managed to cram them in using tricky UNIX commands. How things have change! The colors are brighter, the sounds are clearer, the keyboard works better (snappier), my girlfriend thinks I am sexy again, my kids have all been offered scholarships to the best universities, a long lost uncle left me $234,000, and my neighbor returned the lawn mower.
What an update!
My new MacBook Pro was having problems using my external monitor from time to time… It would just ignore it as if it was not plugged in (Apple 23″, old white one)… After multiple restarts it worked. This has happen a couple of times, and I’m hoping this could prevent that problem… We’ll see.
not only are there no free lunches- but you now have herpes.
