Shams – also try unplugging any unnecessary devices, if unplugging your keyboard does not work. Good luck.
No problems here. More bars – but Thomas from above may be right. I haven’t tested how well the phone holds on to 3G. I’m fortunate to live in the North Eastern part of the US – outside of any big city – thank goodness – and honestly haven’t had ANY dropped calls or bad connection problems.
2.0.2 does not affect 3rd party apps (at least the ones I tested) on my iPhone, as some have suggested. I don’t text message brecklln, can’t confirm deletion of text messages.
Good luck everyone.
Peace.
Two more bars at home.
Havent had any problems anyway.
Will test battery life over next few days.
I am a satisfied iPhone customer, and we are, happily, around 96% of iPhone users.
No problems with update at all… Seems to being switching from Edge to 3G much more efficiently, but haven’t ventured outside yet to test calls etc…
Third forum I’m posting this to, but I had the 3rd party app crash issue too for 2.0.2. What worked for me was installing another app from the App Store. Took two reboots and half an hour, but after it finally installed, all my apps were working again.
Fix the FVCKING reception issue, Apple!!
Many people already returned their iPhones because of that and you don’t realize how many potential switchers you’re losing because of your clumsy quality control thesedays.
Shame on you, Jobs!
There were a few issues with my phone-we’ll see what this does. Fairly slow on reaction to commands like hitting a letter in contacts to get to a particular letter – overall slowness. I look forward to SNAPPIER when (and if) it installs – holycow – big download. But as far as being satisfied, I am quite happy with the phone – have not been a whiner – just a waiter – Apple usually fixes these things.
battery life still BLOWS! It’s actually worse.
MDN word “hold” – Apple, please “hold” any more iPhone updates until you get it right!
well after waiting for hours for the update to load….no difference in the number of 3G bars for me. I still have barely two in an area where I easily get 5 EDGE bars.
MDN Magic word: “months” as in how long it will probably take apple to fix this!
It seems that there is a new option in settings > safari with the name “databases”. Does anyone know what it does?
LOL, you guys
I installed the update at McKinnis’s pub. It worked so well that, like many of the posters here, I went up to two other bars.
more testing and more disappointment.
I think I have less bars on average than before the “bug fixes.” The apps still crash and as a added bonus I could not do any web surfing today until I switched to the EDGE network. Now it works fine. Maybe I should trade it in for last year’s model.
I think instead of calling this the iPhone 3G they should call it the iPhone Beta.
Boy, these updates sure bring out the trolls.
I have original 8GB iPhone. Update took about 45 minutes. All went smoothly, first time. No crashes, no spaz attacks, no lost data, no headaches or angst. All apps work fine, lost no mail or SMS messages. Since I don’t have 3G, I can’t really see much change in my iPhone. Worked great before, works great now.
I have to admit, unplugging the keyboard during an update is the weirdest advice I’ve heard in a long time.
All these problems are not motivating me to buy and iPhone and give my wife my iPod Touch.
On my 1st-gen 8GB iPhone, the update process generated a “Cannot update this iPhone” error message, and the phone would hung on restart. I unplugged and replugged it, and iTunes demanded a Restore. Then the update completed. The phone now works normally. But, whenever I plug it in, iTunes requires a Restore from Backup before syncing.
Major drag.
Updated my 3G – contacts do not seem to lag like before. No appreciable signal improvement, though I’ve been at my desk so not certain. No loss of SMS.
No problems installing on my Touch & IPhone 3G… Reception is DEFINITELY better indoors where I was getting nothing at all, and switching from Edge to 3G is MUCH BETTER!! Device is holding on to 3G signal much longer even with one bar… Seems to be the fix!! I’m still remaining cautiously optimistic that the problem has been rectified…
blah blah blah
get a job
@Chuck:
What an oblivious comment. I shouldn’t update because why? My iPhone is slow as hell when loading programs like SMS or Camera and crashes other programs like Monkey Ball Facebook. Of course there’s also the dropped calls garbage. It just goes on and on. It was expected the last update would fix all this and it didn’t so they release this and so far its no different.
Apple not only dropped the ball on Windows Me but the entire 2.0 Software with its App Store has been a gong show.
3G effects only data connections. It applies to broadband internet connectivity.
Any fix to 3G would logically have nothing to do with your GSM voice calls.
This patch seems to have done nothing to correct the quality of 3G reception for me.
In addition, the anomaly remains in which if I turn off 3G, my bars go way up, and if I turn on 3G, they disappear.
I’m glad that I’m the only one with a working iPhone. Makes me happy because I never have a problem or issue with reception. not one dropped call or freezing issue, or losing my beloved text messages.
I’m glad Jobs gave me the ONE iphone with no issues, thats why i’m so in love with Apple.
At first, I thought it was better, but it isn’t.
It’s possible this has no fix for the reception problem at all. Apple doesn’t say.
I imagine that when they do have a fix for that, they will say so.
@Spark
I’ve had many more pages on both my original iPhone and my new iPhone G3 (mom now has my original iPhone)
iPhone 2.0x software seems to be as stable as version 1 when I have less than 2 pages of 3rd party apps. But when I have 4 or more pages of apps it crashed a lot, sometimes refused to open any 3rd party apps (even after restarting) and on three occasions, completely locked up (bricked) my iPhone forcing me to reformat it from scratch.
The BIG difference is, (unlike windows mobile) I have every reason to believe the iPhone software will get much better. In the meantime I’ll just keep the apps down to two extra pages, that seems to work.
Every time I hook up my iPhone it starts to do a restore on 2.0.2. So I’m not able to sync anything.
Anyone one else with this problem? any fixes?
I tried even setting it up as a new phone and it still does it.
