Firefighters battle 3-alarm blaze at Apple HQ in Cupertino

According to reports, Santa Clara Countyfirefighters have put out a blaze that burned for more than three hours at the headquarters of Apple Inc. The first reports of smoke came at about 10 p.m. Tuesday night, and the fire was contained by 12:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The three-alarm fire scorched the roof and the second level at one of the six buildings on the company’s northern California campus in Cupertino, according to a report from The Associated Press. Local television reports say that the fire was at a “Research and Development” building and that there was extensive fire and water damage. About 100 Apple employees were working late at the time of the fire.

“It was extinguished early Wednesday morning and no one was injured,” AP reports. “Senior Communications Dispatcher Rafael Salcedo says the fire was ‘not very big, but there is going to be a lot of smoke damage.'”

We blame Milton Waddams. Luckily nobody was injured, but the damn iTeleporter is going to have to be completely rebuilt.

  1. “What is a 3-alarm blaze?”
Usually, it means that three different fire engine companies (or fire stations) receive the call to go fight one fire but this protocol varies widely.

    The one-l lama, he’s a priest.
    The two-l llama, he’s a beast.
And I will bet a silk pajama
    There isn’t any three-l lllama.

  2. Any tragedy such as this should be treated with some amount of respect and humanity. We are fortunate that no one was injured or killed when this happened. The loss of property and all the associated clean up and repairs will be costly.

This is not a time for joking around folks. If you are a troll, find another topic to be involved with.

  3. MacSheikh –

“I heard there was a witness who saw two suspicious looking guys running away from the building just before the fire started. And they looked a lot like Gates and Ballmer!”

Nah, they wouldn’t torch their own R&D;department.

  4. Well, the fireman himself the biggest danger was from smoke damage, and not fire burning everything in its path – so that means the fire was somewhat contained. That in itself is bad enough, but be grateful Cupertino is still standing.

Plus, Apple have more than enough money to renovate the affected area, but the fire will probably set a few product timetables back, perhaps?

  5. Everybody’s got jokes today, huh?

Some of you missed your calling.

    Peace.

P.S. Glad nobody got hurt. Apple’s R&D;personnel MAY be the most valuable on staff.
