According to reports, Santa Clara Countyfirefighters have put out a blaze that burned for more than three hours at the headquarters of Apple Inc. The first reports of smoke came at about 10 p.m. Tuesday night, and the fire was contained by 12:30 a.m. Wednesday.
The three-alarm fire scorched the roof and the second level at one of the six buildings on the company’s northern California campus in Cupertino, according to a report from The Associated Press. Local television reports say that the fire was at a “Research and Development” building and that there was extensive fire and water damage. About 100 Apple employees were working late at the time of the fire.
“It was extinguished early Wednesday morning and no one was injured,” AP reports. “Senior Communications Dispatcher Rafael Salcedo says the fire was ‘not very big, but there is going to be a lot of smoke damage.'”

CBS5 has raw video here.
We blame Milton Waddams. Luckily nobody was injured, but the damn iTeleporter is going to have to be completely rebuilt.
Oh, the horrah! (read in your best Long Island accent).
I hope no one (or thing) was hurt.
Kaaahn!!!
Apple is always ‘smoking’ the also rans.
“Luckily nobody was injured”
OK. Answered that question. Now for the thing part.
I wonder if any of the fire fighters snapped pics with their cell phones. I’m sure bogus ones will show up soon on a few sites – just look for that Photoshop fire filter.
Is the guy who headed up the MobileMe launch missing?
I heard there was a witness who saw two suspicious looking guys running away from the building just before the fire started. And they looked a lot like Gates and Ballmer!
Where was Balmer when this was starting?
I’m not surprised Apple have aircon units in their R&D;facility – their egg-heads must generate huge amounts of heat from all the thinking they do!
And if it gets hot, they’re not likely to open the Windows now, are they!
I’d check if Michael Dell or Rob Enderle were near the site.
The redesign of the PowerBook 5300 has been delayed indefinitely.
any bets those firefighters had to sign nda’s to enter the place first
Valley Green Six isn’t what I would call Apple HQ. It’s still in Cupertino, but it’s about a quarter mile away from Infinite Loop.
The building is mostly office space for IS&T;staff. I think the main upshot will be that a hundred people or so will be working from home while Apple figures out what to do for replacement office space.

Didn’t somebody say lately that Steve Job was running around with a Flame thrower over the Mobileme problem?
A pile of splintered office chairs was discovered as the origin of the blaze.
Still nothing about Apple taking the lead in security holes from Microsoft. I suppose this site should be called Mac Daily “Good” News.

Still testing PowerBook G5’s it seems
I am constantly amazed at the level that windoz trollz will sink (or stink) to. Get lost.
The most important question is was the Santa Clara Countyfirefighters response snappy?
Did anyone find Eddie Cue’s red stapler?
“Still nothing about Apple taking the lead in security holes from Microsoft.”
How many Macs running OS X in eight years have been compromised?
Your sky is falling, Chicken Little.
