Apple releases iTunes 7.7; launches App Store

Apple has released iTunes 7.7 and also launched the App Store in some countries. More countries are expected to come online shortly.

Use iTunes 7.7 to sync music, video, and more with iPhone 3G, and download applications from the iTunes Store exclusively designed for iPhone and iPod touch with software version 2.0 or later. Also use the new Remote application for iPhone or iPod touch to control iTunes playback from anywhere in your home — a free download from the App Store.

iTunes 7.7 is available via Software Update (but, not, for some reason, via iTunes “Check for Updates.” Go figure).

iTunes 7.7 is also available via Apple’s website here: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

  1. UK iTunes store, main sidebar at top of iTunes store window :

    ‘New Releases’ > App Store

US iTunes store, main sidebar at top of iTunes Store window : ‘New Releases’ > NO app store tab [?]

    Am I missing something?

  2. Thanks for the instructions guys. However, looks like its not available in the USA yet.

Clicked on the “Get More Applications” in the bottom right of the iTunes window and get “The iTunes Application Store is not currently available. Please try again later.”

Guess we’ll have to wait until tomorrow with the release of the new iPhone…

  3. Guys, the App Store is definitely available in the USA. I’ve been downloading stuff for quite a while. Of course, it’s a little frustrating downloading stuff that you can’t use until the iPhone 2.0 software becomes available. But taking the time to scan the 250 available applications is a little like Christmas morning.
