Porn purveyors ogle Apple’s iPhone 3G

“Apple may be golden because of the iPhone, but the soon-to-be updated device is also increasingly the source of forbidden fruit. Steve Jobs’ company is keeping a civil, if embarrassed, silence about one of the potentially most lucrative and controversial uses of its hand-held jewel: porn,” Jeremy Caplan reports for Time Magazine.

“The technological feats that the 3G iPhone can perform are key to the coming pornocopia… thanks in large part to the iPhone’s video dexterity, short clips are becoming a staple for the mobile porn business. The speed promised by iPhone 2.0 is much anticipated,” Caplan reports. “Google Trends, which measures Web buzz, shows a sharp increase over the past year in the popularity of the term ‘iPhone porn.'”

“Leading porn purveyors see the iPhone as a dream come true. Its relatively ample screen size, speedy Web access and ease of use are just part of it. The device’s miniaturized version of Apple’s Safari software simplifies mobile access and streamlines the process of tailoring dirty sites for optimal viewing on the go. ‘It’s by far the porn-friendliest phone,’ says Devan Cypher, spokesperson for San Francisco-based Sin City Entertainment,” Caplan reports.

“Apple spokesperson Jennifer Bowcock says the company doesn’t condone iPhone porn distribution and will ban adult content from official applications, just as it has restricted adult content in the podcast section of the Apple store. But they can’t prevent customers from accessing porn through the device’s browser,” Caplan reports. “Indeed, the new iPhone may eventually propel mobile porn deeper into the sphere of interactivity.”

  1. Some of us do like our porn on the iPhone. It saves us money from having to rent those 10 dollar/nite ppv on hotel cable. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />

  2. @Wife: All I know is that my wife likes watching porn with me. It’s her favorite foreplay.

And porn on my iPhone has come in quite handy on the business trips I’ve taken this year (and it’s cheaper than Spanktravision).

  3. @Has anybody actually

The repression argument is old and outdated. It’s a 70 billion dollar industry and is mainstream. The problems is that more kids and adults are becoming sex addicts. In addition the rise of deviant types of pornography is a huge problem. Have you noticed the rise of child porn arrests being made in the last few years?

Hopefully Safari on the iPhone will have Parental Controls.

Wanna know if you’re a porn addict? Try to see whether you can avoid looking any porn material for a week, or stop masturbating to porn for a week,

  4. No disrespect intended, but consider: most people’s ‘official’ ideas regarding sex in the US are still very puritanical; it’s ridiculous and perhaps even quaint in this information age where porn blogs abound. How many parents of these teens are being frank with their children about the things they’re seeing? I also think that it’s less that deviant pornography is any more prevalent these days than it is just more easily accessible.

I’m not saying that porn addiction isn’t a real, even rampant issue, just that sex and it’s culture are not inherently poisonous to the human psyche. In fact, I’d argue that healthy sexuality is critical to our well being. For some people, erotica is a perfectly acceptable part of that.

  5. Ted Bundy watched porn.
Ted Bundy was a serial killer.
Therefore, all those who wach porn will become serial killers?

So silly. I remember when people were saying marijuana was a “gateway” drug, because nearly all heroin addicts started out using marijuana. Then someone (George Carlin, maybe) pointed out that nearly all marijuana users started out drinking milk when they were younger. So clearly, inexorably, milk was the real “gateway” drug.

Face it, only a handful of people are “addicted” to porn. The rest of us just like it. Get over it. Next topic.

  6. I just don’t buy the notion that US ideals about sexuality are puritanical. I think you’re beating a dead horse (ugh). Most of the porn produced in the world is from the US. Pornstars are in shows and video games. And if even if some regions are, how is unlimited access to hardcore pornography supposed to exemplify notions of healthy sexuality. Porn does nothing of the sort.

Health sexuality is about sharing, most people consume porn alone. Most bodies in porn have been surgically altered or worked out to an extreme degree. No female or male can live up to these ideals.
If people consume porn regularly, and when they get together with their partner and need to recall those images in order to climax, how do you think that builds intimacy and attachment?

Most of the people in the industry have at least one STD. Most of them are dealing with mental health issues, and they come from backgrounds where sexual and physical abuse occurred.

Personally, this is not the type of sexuality I would like to learn from

  7. I agree. Get over it. There’s nothing wrong with liking porn, and for Wii from Wii, it’s called a fantasy. Anybody with half a brain knows the difference between real life and a badly acted smut! No offense, but your comment only furthers the ‘puritanical US ideal’ mentality. People who get addicted to porn could have gotten addicted to ANYTHING. What’s the big here, folks? I always figured it was sort of a given that this would make its way to portable devices. So what?

  8. “Anybody with half a brain knows the difference between real life and a badly acted smut! ” – you still just don’t get it. There is nothing healthy about porn and it has negative effects on real sexuality. If porn was so benign, or even good, why aren’t pornstars the most healthy people on the planet? If you look at the reality of making porn, it’s exactly opposite.
Adult film actor/resses are very screwed up people, for the most part.

If you value good quality sex, GET RID of the porn.

  9. @Wii: if you don’t want porn in your life, fine, no one is going to force it upon you. If you wish to counsel your kids to avoid porn, again that’s your prerogative.

However, when it comes to any other adult’s ability to watch and enjoy porn, if they so choose, please just shut up. No one wants to hear your self-righteous load of crap.
