Australian 3G Apple iPhone to be world’s fastest; set for June 9 unveiling

“Australia will have the fastest Apple 3G iPhone in the world, a senior executive of Telstra has told ChannelNews. ‘We know what is coming we have seen the new device and it will be available on our network as soon as it is launched in the USA. By Xmas this phone will be capable of 42mbs which will make it faster than a lot of broadband offerings and the fastest iPhone on any network in the world,’ they said,” David Richards reports or ChannelNews.

“The 3G version of Apple’s iPhone will become available very soon after its June 9 unveiling by CEO/chairman Steve Jobs at the Apple Worldwide Developer Conference in San Francisco say Apple insiders. ChannelNews has also been told that Telstra already have 3G phones for testing,” Richards reports.

    No one in Australia is about to lose their job for squalking [sic].

    There is no NDA on the iPhone in Australia. Most of the major players here have made official announcements that they will be selling the iPhone.
    The device would have been submitted to the certified for use in Australia by a government body which must remain open to public enquiry so there is no way of keeping it secret, likewise the enhancement to Telstra’s 3G network.
    And we’re talking about the 3G network OWNED by Telstra so if this speed increase works for the 3G iPhone, it will work with ALL 3G devices.

  2. Well, congrats Aussies. 42 mbps is faster than my “top of the line” home DSL connection.

    Congrats, really to the rest of the world, and I include middle-income countries like South Korea and Taiwan – ALL of you have faster, cheaper broadband than we do in our oligopoly-dominated US of A.
