  1. I have the original 17″ MacBook Pro — the Core Duo (not C2D) model from 2006. I haven’t been included in these firmware updates for quite some time. What is it:

    1) There’s nothing to improve upon with my model
    2) All the development is focussed on the newer models.

I feel that I’m being neglected. My MacBook Pro runs great for the most part, but it does suffer the occasional glitch and kernel panic.

Anyone else with this model feel that they could use improvements in their firmware?

  2. I’m looking for something to fix my MacBook fan. I just got the 2.2 Black MacBook and the fan loves to run full blast, even when it’s not very hot. My older 1.8 MacBook didn’t seem to have that problem. Anyone else have that issue? (It doesn’t seem to always listen to the settings I’ve set in Fan Control.)

  3. I can’t get more RAM – got 4 gigs. Fan Control won’t let you roast the processor. The problem is that the fan isn’t always listening to the fan settings and just cranks itself up to full speed and stays there. I’m thinking the internal thermostat may be faulty, but wondering if anyone else has encountered this problem.

I have the most recent Macbook 2.4ghz. Upon downloading a message popped up saying the update wasn’t “needed.” Yet, my boot version differs from the one the update is supposed to provide.

    Me feel neglected too, Neglected!

  5. Essence-
Get rid of fan control (whichever one you have) and shut down the laptop and do an Opt-Cmd-R-P startup. Hold all of those keys down RIGHT AFTER you press the power button to start the computer and hold them until after you hear the SECOND startup chime. That will reset your PRAM and NVRAM. If that doesn’t fix it then maybe a sensor has gone bad or gotten disconnected that tells the system how hot the CPU is. I think they fail in the the “safe” direction (i.e. run the fan). Those fan control programs fiddle with settings that can sometimes get messed up.
