Observers eye big June debut of Apple’s next-gen iPhone

“Apple is gearing up for a big bump in sales of the next generation iPhone, if new production plans are any guide,” Scott Moritz reports for Fortune.

“The plans show the faster iPhone will be rolling off the assembly line this summer. The initial order calls for 11 million iPhones to be built this year, with that total split between the existing 2.5G phone and the upgraded 3G phone, according to people familiar with the plan,” Moritz reports.

“Apple appears to be targetting a June introduction of the 3G version of the phone, roughly a year after the original iPhone’s debut. And similar to last year, Apple seems to be scheduling a limited initial supply to be followed by more phones in the fall quarter,” Moritz reports.

  1. LOL, TGONTG!

Of loose relevance: I witnessed someone at the Manhattan Beach, CA Apple Store buying 5 iPhones in one whack last week. I guess the 2-per-customer limit is off the table. Clear the inventory baby. I don’t know if 3Gs are coming in June or not, but I can predict the immediate whining about lack of AT&T;3G service as soon as new iPhone is released.

  2. I did not take the Gartner follow up statement to be a retraction. I read it between the lines to say we need to be careful here, expecially with regard to the confidentiality of our sources, but, we still think the statement was accurate.

It is comming form so many sources now. A new 3G iPhone seems set for a June arrival.

I am thinking it will be expensive and that the old one will continue to be available, perhapse at a new, lower price point.

  3. Just thought I would say that I may or may not buy an iPhone in June. Well at least Jaygee will be interested to know that, even if everyone else is quite rightly yawning in disinterest at the relevance of the point.

I totally agree with your comments that one should either buy or not buy the iphone.

Just like the decision I made to whether I want to comment or not comment on this thread.

I find it very necessary in life to point out the important facts of life to family, friends and the world, whether I choose to place strawberrys or chopped bananas in my breakfast cereal every morning.

It’s so great to have people like you being more transparent in your decision making and letting everyone know every facet of information that you do know, regardless of whether we care or not.

I don’t see myself getting an iPhone soon either because my cell bill is in the teens except when I travel, where it gets to 3-figures. But I will get one if I can turn off data, or if there’s a plan that suits me, or maybe unlocked and with bigger storage. I’m almost ready for the iPod touch on the next storage upgrade cycle when there’s a camera in front and out the back.

  6. Geeezzzzeee, why this push for the 3G iPhone.???

June will mean big sales cause of all the new functionability of the existing iPhone. Suddenly companies can have their “push” email and the sudden kill function.

Plus the rest of us get tons of games etc.

If they add a new iPhone to the line up, fine, if not, so what?

Actually the what would be a big dip in the market for Apples stock since the new phone or not will not have 3d movie projection capacity. 🙁

I think that is a really great idea! Go build a BLOG that nobody will read, and hopefully it will keep you busy enough to keep you from posting stupid shit here.

Man up dude. You posted a stupid statement. Nobody cares. I’m not the only one to point this out to you.

  8. I have a hard time believing Apple will release software AND a new iPhone at the same time.

Seems like they would be at least a month a part.

Also, I’m considering not buying a new iPhone at this time, since I already have one, and the new iPhone 2.0 is not out yet.

Also again, I am not going to buy any software, at least until it is released and I know what it is.

    That’s just the way I roll…

  9. Kahuna, back off from JAYGEE. Some of us had been holding our breath wondering whether he’d take the plunge once the new phones are released. Many of us base our decisions to buy or wait to buy based on what JAYGEE might be doing. Very relevant! And if he builds a site saying what he doesn’t have, I’ll certainly be checking it so I don’t fall into a trap by buying one of those things! Keep the guidance coming, JAYGEE!

  10. Tom Strong and Kahuna are right about JAYGEE. When I read the first post I was like, “What?!”. It would be like a guy at a wedding raising his hand and saying “I don’t have an objection to this wedding.” It may be true and “relevant”, but unless they had asked you, it serves no purpose.
