“Apple is gearing up for a big bump in sales of the next generation iPhone, if new production plans are any guide,” Scott Moritz reports for Fortune.
“The plans show the faster iPhone will be rolling off the assembly line this summer. The initial order calls for 11 million iPhones to be built this year, with that total split between the existing 2.5G phone and the upgraded 3G phone, according to people familiar with the plan,” Moritz reports.
“Apple appears to be targetting a June introduction of the 3G version of the phone, roughly a year after the original iPhone’s debut. And similar to last year, Apple seems to be scheduling a limited initial supply to be followed by more phones in the fall quarter,” Moritz reports.

I don’t see myself getting an iPhone in the next few years, so I guess it doesn’t matter to me when they release it. I can afford for them to take their time.
On what evidence does this knucklehead place his statements? The retracted Gartner statements? What? This type of foolishness doesn’t command a response. But I figure maybe I’m missing some vital info. MDN, is this guy a hack, or informed?
JAYGEE, I’ll alert the media. Thanks for letting everyone know.
@Tom Strong
So if my answer was ‘OMG I can’t wait for a 3G iPhone’, would you attitude to my answer be different?
@ JAYGEE
His point was that your post had zero relevance to the thread. If you can’t see that…
Since when do we listen to Scott Moritz?
MDN headling: “Observers eye big June debut …”
As opposed to a “small June”???
I did not know that the month of June could have a size: small, big, heavy, XXL or whatever.
@ Kahuna
The article is about iPhones, and I’m saying I don’t see myself getting one in the next few years. If I said I can’t see myself getting an Wii, that would have no relevance to the thread.
I really want an iPhone, but here in Canada, this looks like it might be a bit of a wait.
I went and bought the most expensive Motorola last month thinking that because my previous Motorola would Sync my phone book to my MacBook, that the new upgraded model would do the same. I spent $500.00 to get my new phone only to discover that it wouldn’t sync. Damn you Motorola and Telus.
As soon as the iPhone is available here, I’ll buy one and switch providers.
JG,
What do you have against the wii you zero relevance dude?
This is astro-turfing designed to kill iPhone 2.5G sales
I am glad that I am not JAYGEE right now.
Let me just point that out.
@Kahuna-
JAYGEE’s post is more relevant than yours is. It’s more relevant than this post, as well.
Besides, since when did relevance become so important on MDN?
And no, I am not JAYGEE, but he or she has tried to take my name perhaps.
I’ve been waiting until the 3G and the SDK were both out…THAT will be the crest of the next wave. When both are here…it will be a great time to buy one.
Talked to a guy today, devout PC guy, showed me his iPhone… all beat to hell. He’s dropped it a few times, it has cracks in the glass…and it works just fine. He loves it.
Any G3 iPhone released to be sold in the US is going to go through a very, very public and lengthy FFC approval process. So a June release and availability in the US not very likely. Japan and Asia on the other hand is possible as the approval process is faster and not publicly available as it is in the US.
geek…
Yep, them Microsnot shills are at it again!
How could JAYGEE’s first comment not be relevant to the thread… it was the FIRST post, so technically, he was STARTING the thread. Everyone ELSE is irrelevant.
Who IS Scott Moritz?
Tom,
I am not planning on buying a wii right now. I might in a few years. I’ll be damned if I let you know about it though! I might tell John Gee and Chrissy.
“Apple is gearing up for a big bump in sales of the next generation iPhone, if new production plans are any guide,” Scott Moritz reports for Fortune.
New production plans aren’t a guide…you moron Scott. You work for a worthless rag not Apple. And since I know you are 100% wrong…I’m passing your stupidy on to all the MDN readers here.
I’ll buy a new iPhone when 3G comes out and give my old one (that practically looks brand new still after 9 months of use) to my boyfriend.
I was at the 14th street NYC store today to pick up a Jawbone for my iPhone. The store got more iPhones in today and they were selling like hotcakes. The two people in front of me (out of country with accents) were buying 3 and 4 iphones each. The store was packed at 11:00 AM
The current demand seems to buy there.
The Transportation Security Administration said Friday its officers at a Texas airport appear to have properly followed procedures when they allegedly forced a woman to remove her nipple rings — one with pliers — but acknowledged the procedures should be changed.
The woman involved — Mandi Hamlin — told reporters earlier Friday she was humiliated by last month’s incident, in which she was forced to painfully remove the piercings behind a curtain as she heard snickers from male TSA officers nearby. The incident occurred at the Lubbock, Texas, airport.
If you’re going to post something irrelevant, do it right.
@ John Gee – I am not JAYGEE, but he or she has tried to take my name perhaps.
Nope
“Any G3 [sic] iPhone released to be sold in the US is going to go through a very, very public and lengthy FFC [sic] approval process.”
As has been said before, there are ways around this. I believe that you can petition the FCC to keep it private. You can also create a dummy company and have them submit it and then you buy out the dummy company and you have the FCC approval.
