As MacDailyNews first reported on February 14th, Apple today officially announced the dates for the company’s Worldwide Developers Conference. WWDC 2008 will be held June 9-13, 2008 in San Francisco at Moscone West.

Yikes! It’s so unlike Apple to hype these events… Yet they usually surpass my expectations.

June will tell us the secret, but I would say that one bridge represents foot traffic, bicycles, etc., in other words, all manner of NON-automobile traffic. The other bridge represents the path from the old way interacting with computers–I mean way back pre-mouse–arching up OVER today’s “Mac Way,” and reaching the future goal: a whole NEW way of interacting. You say multitouch–I say it will be something not yet thought of.
I don’t expect miracles now, the Mac and iPhone will keep Apple busy, but you can bet they have miracles they are working on, ready to drop some teeny hints.

Strictly speaking, if you use the phrase “in more ways than one” then you imply that there are two or more meanings to the tagline and that at least two of them apply to the event.
Since “landmark event” typically is used to describe a big watershed type event, then the second meaning can only be the single *other* meaning of the term, i.e. – something to do with actual landmarks or geography.
Advertisers are famous for mangling the language so one can’t be certain, but I would take this to mean that there is something about maps, GPS, or roadmaps involved in the event.

Perhaps nothing wrong, but the Apple Cinema Displays definately could be better. They have limited connectivity – no HDMI, no S or composite video ports, etc. Also, when did they first appear on the market – three or four years ago? Surely the LCD panels have been improved since then. Since they typically sell at a premium price, they shouldn’t have to rely on their outer beauty more than their inner brains – a.k.a. capabilities.
Does Google Earth work on the iPhone/iPod touch?
I love Apple already but if they can make my commute faster with 2 bridges, I’ll never even use the letters P or C again.

It’s simple. This is the day when the AppStore will go live. But it will not just be huge for the iPhone and mobile phone industry, but also for the portable computer industry/ultra-mobile computer industry. Apple will most likely debut their much-rumored multi-touch tablet PC on which the same SDK as on the iPhone will work.
On another note, I think I am noticing a trend with the originally four missing iPhone icons on its home page. One was added as iTunes WiFi (now just for Music), the second one will be AppStore. Will there be two more stores (for Games and Videos?) Just a theory.

Maybe. From a visual standpoint I think the could have used a better image to convey convergence. I guess we’ll have to wait until June.
Maybe the bridge between Apple and PC Software will be done… a complete Windows API emulator, no other software, run those PC apps must use straight within OSX.
One major event will be the official release of the final sdk with a number of apps in the app store. Could the second be a preview of what’s to come in OS X 10.6?

Stuff might be announced, but it’s mainly about computer programmers getting together to learn about writing code for Apples latest technologies.
Lots of iPhone SDK details, how to write for multitouch on Macbooks, how to setup Leopard as a Server in a office. Stuff like that.
Really? I thought it was to brainstorm new flavors of Apple Kool-Aid. Learn something new every day.
Maybe this year they be telling us how to program mind-control devices or hypnosis rays. How cool would that be? I now command you to multi-touch yourself! Who needs porn on the iPhone? I think your all wrong… theyve finally figured that the RDF filed can be modulated into stereo vision, but they still have a few more adjustments to go.
Maybe the “one more thing…” will be “…not only can you now see multiples of reality, you can drive down them with a a mac or iPhone.

If you’ve ever been to the Bay Area you’ll probably know that the image of the bridge(s) is from the San Francisco side looking north toward Marin. Since the event is in San Francisco, the bridges are converging. The convergence of technologies would appear to be the metaphor.
The question is; which technologies in particular? Computers and television? Will Apple announce that they are developing a TV platform? Perhaps they will announce a TV set that can interface directly with the iPhone and iPod Touch as controllers. You could cut and paste your favorite characters from one show into another. Don’t like who’s on Dave tonight? paste in your favorite celebrity and load some i nteresting questions for Dave to ask.

I’ve wondered for a while whether they couldn’t put two or three isights into the screen bezel to enable a computer generated 3-D image for iChat. The two bridges being the same bridge from two angles reminded me of this.

I was driving along the Golden Gate bridge today and believe it or not there was this huge black curtain going across the water to my right. Apple are clearly up to something. It’s either the first suspended Apple store, the world’s biggest Apple display showing iTunes movies or Steve Jobs private bridge for his new condo in Marin.
Great, as if traffic wasn’t bad enough, now they want to squeeze another bridge through that bottleneck. C’mon Apple I see a User Interface problem here!
