RUMOR: Apple MacBook Pro update coming soon

“Last week, we’d heard an unconfirmed report that three new MacBook Pro models had appeared in Best Buy’s inventory tracking system. Some inventory screenshots we received today appear to confirm this earlier report, showing off the upcoming $1999 price point MacBook Pro,” Arnold Kim reports for Mac Rumors.

“These new SKUs come with the exact same price points as current MacBook Pros ($1999, $2499, $2799) and show an in-stock date of February 10th, 2008,” Kim reports.

“The new MacBook Pros will likely incorporate only modest updates (Penryn and Multi-Touch),” Kim reports.

  1. I prefer matte screens, but I detest the thread hijacking done by the pro matte fanatics. For you hijacking f**ktards, go find a blog story about matte vs. glossy and post it. Then, have at it so the rest of us can discuss the issue the thread is supposed to be about.

Perhaps MDN should post a matte vs glossy thread, keeping it at or near the top of the threads list to catch the spew cuming from the hijackers.

  2. Actually, Penryn and multi-touch are exactly what I’ve been hoping for in a Mac Book Pro update. I believe that I’ll be in the market to replace my Powerbook soon, and I was hoping for exactly this “small bump.” ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />

  3. For god’s sake people! For the last time, just buy one of those damn matte screen stickers/covers/filters/whatever its called and stick them on your damn glossy screen. Either that or DON’T buy the ones with glossy screens. The end.

  4. It seems to me that the whole glossy versus matte thing is really a question of personal preference. I worked in publishing for many years and in all that time, what I have found is that some people like the glossy screens and some don’t. As long as the monitor is set up with a properly color corrected profile, many Art people I know actually prefer them except for those who loathe them.” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” /> I love my glossy iMac and while these days I do more audio production then magazine production, the fact is that for me, glossy is just fine.

    My $.02

  5. What the hell is the problem?? All these “professionals” are whining about glossy screens, but the two PRO lines (MacBook and Mac) both offer matte options!

If the “professionals” are trying to save money by buying a glossy screened consumer line, that’s their problem.

For the record, I love my glossy MacBook (it just needs a clean!)

  6. I love how the anti-glossy fanatics assume that you aren’t doing ‘real’ work if you use a glossy. I’d MUCH rather use the glossy screen on my Macbook than the matte one on my old Powerbook, there’s no comparison. Get a grip.

  7. Pro photographer here.

What is going on is that those who prefer matte screens think that because they like it that way, everyone must like it that way. Even worse, they think those who don’t like it their way are fools.

For goodness sakes, don’t buy a computer with a glossy screen and then complain that it has a glossy screen.

So one Apple Store genius said it’s the #1 complaint? Out of how many sold to happy customers? And how many of those complainers are sitting with their backs to the window?

  9. I’m so excited about the new MacBook Pro – I was about ready to buy a new one last week when I heard about the rumor of an upgrade. So, I’m waiting.. not very patiently! I would like to weigh in on the matte versus glossy issue. I’m using a 5 year old PowerBook G4 gigahurtz machine with a matte screen. Yesterday a friend brought her MacBook over for me to help her get her email working. I am a graphic designer and website designer and do a LOT of photo work. Her screen was glossy and it was very disconcerting for me. I work in my farmhouse family room with a bay window behind me and the glare of the light was terrible. Worse yet was how dirty and icky the screen looked. I tried to clean it before I worked on the machine but it did not clean up well. When I get my new MBP I will most definitely get a matte screen. I actually am GLAD I read about this discussion, as it made me realize how important it is to get what I like best. Thanks y’all.
