Mac Giving Tree launched – get free Mac software

Mac Giving Tree has been launched today to give free software gifts to Mac users during this holiday season. People who sign-up will receive two Mac software presents which will be unwrapped on Christmas Day.

In addition, upon sign-up people will immediately receive over $50 in Mac software including Ambrosia Software’s popular audio capturing application WireTap Pro, holiday shopping list application Santa’s Gizmo, and secure encryption application BitClamp.

The Mac Giving Tree offer will run until midnight on Christmas Eve EST, when the presents will be unwrapped.

  1. “What’s the catch?”

This is yet another attempt by the MacHeist folks to increase its database of registered users. Previous efforts have gone awry; for MacHeist, registered users and independent software developers.

There are many sides to every story, so a litte Googling of “MacHeist” might be recommended.

  2. The catch is that they conveniently substitute “in” for the words “towards the purchase of”:

“upon sign-up people will immediately receive over $50 [towards the purchase of] Mac software including Ambrosia Software’s popular audio capturing application WireTap Pro, holiday shopping list application Santa’s Gizmo, and secure encryption application BitClamp”

Seriously, you can’t expect to get something for free. Nothing that you’d want anyways.
