Analyst estimates up to 2.2 million Apple Macs sold this quarter

“One of the season’s most-anticipated tech earnings reports is set to be delivered Monday when Apple Inc. gives its fiscal-fourth quarter results amid high expectations for Macintosh sales and new insights into the market reception of the iconic iPhone,” Rex Crum reports for MarketWatch.

“The latest PC sales figures from technology research firm Gartner Inc. also suggest that the Mac has been gaining ground in the market. Gartner said that during the third quarter, Apple shipped 1.34 million Macs in the U.S., which was good enough for 8.1% of the market and third place behind Hewlett-Packard Co. and Dell Inc. Gartner said Apple’s shipments rose more than 37% from the same period a year ago,” Crum reports.

“Gene Munster, of Piper Jaffray, said he expects Apple to reports Mac sales of between 2.1 million and 2.2 million units for the quarter,” Crum reports. “Munster also said that he believes Apple had a bigger back-to-school month in August that the same month last year because ‘the Mac platform is gaining shares in the education market and the new Macs released on August 7 helped drive Mac sales in the quarter.'”

  1. In a few days it will be time to pull some cash out of my Apple investment and purchase another Mac!…or an iPhone…. or diversify my portfolio just a bit.

Can’t wait for that stock to move into the $180’s! WOOT!!

  2. That’s funny 7o, as I do the same thing. As long as my Apple stake keeps going up, it acts as justification for my purchase of the iPhone, and shortly a new Macbook.

And, I too, use it as a chance to take some shares off the table and diversify a little, like sticking it in Google!

  3. @Dirty Manipulator

Where is your “scientific report”? There are 322 articles in the National Institutes of Health Library concerning computer displays and eye strain. Not one of those articles says anything about long-term effects of glossy screens.

  4. This glossy screen business is a load of BS. They have been used in PC laptops for years and no ones been complaining about them.

I can understand having a personal preference about glossy or matte. However, we often hear complaints about a new feature Apple introduce which disappear once people try them out and get used to the difference. The dock is a good example.

  5. The only iMacs that didn’t have glossy screens were the chunky-white G5 and early Intel models. All other iMac models (gum-drop, desk-lamp, and now aluminum) had glossy screens. Get over it bitches.

  6. Gene Munster has a track record of inaccurate predictions. He’s always off the mark.

Apple sold just shy or slight more than 2 million Macs during the last quarter. Let’s not forget that many people have been holding off on purchases as they are waiting for leopard

  7. Show us the details of your assertion, asshat, or STFU. In my recollection, Gene Munster was and has been one of Apple’s most reliable and positive proponents. Until you can PROVE what you say with specifics, I shall take what you say with the proverbial grain of salt.

  8. So what are the figures for outside of the USA where most of the market is, we don’t know. Anyone have these figures so we can make a realistic comparison? This is my third post on this in the last week and we just keep getting one region of Mac sales. How can anyone make an accurate comparison with just one region, you can’t.
