“Apple’s secretive plans for an official retail store in Sydney – understood to be the first in the southern hemisphere – have been revealed in council documents, which suggest it’s unlikely the store will open for business before mid-2008,” Asher Moses reports for The Sydney Morning Herald.
“The elaborate store, which is now under construction on the corner of King Street and George Street, will spread over three levels and, according to architectural drawings, each level will have a floor space of about 445 square meters,” Moses reports.
“The company handling the store’s construction, Kell & Rigby, has now been granted permission from the City of Sydney Council to perform a full road closure of George Street between King Street and Market Street on various evenings in January and February next year,” Moses reports. “The dates suggest it is unlikely the store will open before the middle of next year, but Apple has already taken out advertisements seeking staff to work there.”

Geez all these major cities getting these amazing Apple stores. In Toronto all we have is three mall stores.
They’ll have to hold their iPhones upside down.
@ Edward
Unfortunately we are a small market for Apple even in our bustling metropolis that is Toronto. Look at the iPhone; released in Europe before it is in Canada, even though we are goegraphically closer.
@ron
thanks – that was funny
Douchebags to the North.
Inspired by the Sidney Opera House and New York’s Guggenhiem Museum, Apple’s new Australian store is said to be patterned after the golden geometry found inside the nautilus shell.
Here in Ottawa the capital of Canada we do not have an Apple store, must rely on Best Buy and Future Shop. Apple is missing sales big time here, needs a corporate store in the Ottawa and Gatineau market.
Help Him!

Comedy Is Not Pretty.
It’s like those French have a different word for Everything!
Wow, Kell and Rigby, Apple does hire only the best.
Howsabaout (tax-free) Portsmouth New Hampshire, fer chissakes?!? Enough with the Taxachusettes stores!
(I know, not related to Sydney, but I have to get my digs where I can)
C’mon Apple, what about the Melbourne store? Melbourne is, after all, the city that buys the most Apple gear in Australia.
When Toronto starts becoming a relevant city, let the folks at Apple know.
Three Apple stores are more than enough for Metro Toronto.
Hurry up the Sydney store.

I’m about to lose control
And I think I like it.
I’m so excited,
And I just can’t hide it,
And I know, I know, I know, I know

Hurry up the Sydney store.
I was in Australia in the 1970s and fell in love with the country and its people.
Sydney is a special place.
An Apple Store is a nice addition to that wonderful city.
Helloooo, nobody is in Sydney!

can’t wait for this!
@Steve Ballmer,
You’re such a f=%@wit I almost laughed, almost. For the record the city has over 4.25 million. And the line we trot out for idiots like you is that we have kangaroos going down the main street.
Now go off somewhere and start a war or something and leave the rest of us to do something interesting…like breathing.
