iPhone hackers promise ‘relock’ solution

“If you hacked your iPhone to run other applications or use it on other networks, the iPhone Dev Team wants you to wait before installing Apple’s forthcoming software update,” Tom Krazit reports for CNET.

“The group credited with opening up the iPhone to both application development and networks other than AT&T’s says it will have a fix out next week that will allow you to restore that iPhone to its factory settings, according to a statement attributed to the group that was posted on The Unofficial Apple Weblog. On Monday Apple warned iPhone users who had installed software for unlocking their phones that an iPhone update expected later this week could potentially break their phones, and that just downloading the unlocking software voids the iPhone warranty,” Krazit reports.

“The group promised to have a fix out next week that would relock the phones, which would ostensibly cover your tracks and let you bring your iPhone in for warranty service. But the statement also seemed to indicate that the hackers would immediately set upon Apple’s iPhone update and find a way to make the unlocking software work with the update,” Krazit reports.

  1. iPhone hackers promise ‘relock’ solution

    Dam right we will.

Hold tight iPhone fans, they can’t stop us.

Two signs a product is successful.

1: It ranks high on a theives list of stolen items.

2: Crackers like us want to free it from it’s chains.

    FSCK AT&T;!!! GODDARM SPIES!!!

  2. What is the big fricking deal about unlocking the iPhone?

At&t;, Sprint, Verizon, T-Mobile, etc.. They are all the same, who really gives a shite?

Why go through all the trouble of unlocking and possibly breaking your warranty while losing features like Visual Voicemail just to be on another network?

I just don’t get it….Seems pretty damn stupid.

  3. A couple of imaginitve, curious kids who figured out how to unlock the iPhone are under legal assault from Apple!
Why do we let them get away with this type behavior? Strangling the creativity in our youth, inhibiting free trade and commerce. These bright young men should be applauded for their heroic efforts to give people choice. Why all of the legal machinations against the young and impressionable?
I for one don’t want to live in a world where Steve Jobs and the iGustapo can walk into the High School Science fair and start turning over tables screaming,
“No! No! That’s my idea! Don’t change our stuff you brats! I’ll sue your parents! Guards catch that one, beat him! Muahahahahaha!”
    An old friend wrote me just yesterday;
“… My son Scotty looked up at me the other day and asked, ‘Mommy, can I make a better radio pretty please?’ – Steve, I was heartbroken but had to tell him, ‘No Scotty, I’m sorry but It might make Steve Jobs mad’. At that moment I saw the twinkle leave his eye and we both sobbed …”
People! For goodness sake, protect your children from these people. Let the children’s laughter remind us of how we used to be.

  4. Funny thing, A friend of mine wanted to play his music on the iphone through a stereo speaker system.

He went to Microcenter and decided to plug it in to the discontinued Apple iPod stereo dock system.

The screen on his phone went crazy and then black. Over lunch he commented that the iphone was too hot to hold and would not start up.

    FRIED iPhone…..

Took it back to Apple store and said it just stopped working.
    Got a brand new one…

    Just a happy customer story.

  5. I am glad to reveal to the public our disection and test results for an iPhone which was given to Bill at D:.
I won’t bore you with details but I can personally assure you that this thing is some of the chinseyest, cheapest, subpar components on earth. Apple is so full of cultish loyalty that they cannot admit when they have a total loser!
Mr. Jobs, I emplore you to cancel the rollout on the 29th and save your company the inevitable embarassment. Our labs don’t lie. I am forwarding an email to Steve right now.
