Are all Apple Mac users gay guys or women?

“The question is so absurd, so insipid, and so silly that I’m loathe to even bother answering it. The answer, of course, is no. There are plenty of heterosexual men who own and use Macs. These folks come from all walks of life and all cultural backgrounds,” Jim Lynch writes for ExtremeTech.

“If you do a Google search for “famous mac users” you’ll even find that there are even quite a few famous heterosexual men and women that use Macs. You know that Macs have across-the-board appeal when you have [both] Al Gore [and] Rush Limbaugh… using them,” Lynch writes. “So where did this silly idea about Macs take root? Where did Goofball IT Drone get this from?”

“I think it has to do with the fact that Macs and other Apple products have traditionally looked much better and been far more reliable than their crappy Windows counterparts. And, for IT drones like Goofball IT Drone, this idea is very offensive and cannot be tolerated,” Lynch writes. “But I guess you can’t blame them too much for being so ignorant, if all you ever used was Windows then how would you know how incredibly wimpy it is?”

“And just what exactly do these IT drones do all day with their Windows computers? When they aren’t busy downloading porn (or ‘checking the firewall’ as they call it) they spend most of their time trying to keep their Windows machines clean of viruses and spyware. Gotta run that spyware/malware/virus application every ten minutes or your uber-tough, macho Windows box will be brought to its knees in a matter of minutes,” Lynch writes. “Wow. When you step back and look at it, you really can see the inherent manliness of Windows.”

“Goofball IT Drone is conflating masculinity (or his perception of the lack thereof) with computer hardware. Many people who oppose 2nd amendment civil rights also conflate masculinity with guns in a twisted way. Usually you can identify these folks when they say things like ‘gun owners own guns because they have small penises’ and that sort of nasty, dehumanizing rhetoric. Goofball IT Drone doesn’t like it when the gun grabbers say things like that and neither do I as I’m a gun owner too,” Lynch writes.

Lynch writes, “But anti-Mac-bigots like Goofball IT Drone do essentially the same thing in reverse. They demonize Macs (and thus all Mac owners) by projecting their own internal perception of Mac computers as being ‘feminine’ outward onto everybody else. In the end anti-Mac-bigots and gun grabbers are essentially the same kind of people, they dislike an inanimate object and attempt to ridicule and mock it because they either fear it outright or just dislike it. And worse, they attempt to dehumanize the people who own the objects they dislike by referring to them in a condescending, contemptuous way.”

There’s much more in the full article here.

Hoo, boy. The “gay” wasn’t enough, Lynch needed guns, too? We have a great idea: Let’s have a bachelor party with chicks and guns and fire trucks and hookers and drugs and booze!

  1. The question is so absurd, so insipid, and so silly that I’m loathe to even bother answering it.

I mean really, if someone actually asked the question, then he could be loathe about it, but nobody asked it. The author presented the question in his headline and didn’t say that anyone actually asked it, so why would he need to answer a question that doesn’t exist, unless you make up the question yourself for the sake of being disgusted by it. Am I missing something?

  2. How scared are PC Guys getting. MAC USERS ARE FAGS or WOMEN?? Going along that line of thought all PC Users Pull SNOT from their noses and eat it. Tiger makes VISTA look like a popcorn fart. Leopard is an order of magnitude better than TIGER. Might as well cal Vista, ME 2.

Apple = Better Hardware, Software, User Experience, Security etc.

Microsoft = F*** You Gimmy your money!

  3. I’m very, very gay and I am a Mac user.

In my experience gay men and women tend to be smarter than the average neanderthal straight men. Since intelligent people are more likely to use a Mac, a larger percentage of gay men than straight men are likely to be Mac users. However, if you compare them as just total numbers and not weighted percentages, there are certainly more straight men who use Macs than gay men since gay people only make up 10% of the population.

  4. I’m a European heterosexual alien living in France who discovered the only valuable consumer product on this strange planet….an iMAC….Is this good stuff for another bs article written by some “journalist” who has nothing else to do? Gay, yellow, hetero, black, fat, white, thin, green, …who cares?

  5. I have at least a dozen Macs so, I guess I must be really gay.
I think that in the early days the majority of people using Macs were creative types that were in the graphic and music profession so just because you have god forbid a little flair or personality you are typecast as being a homosexual.

I have no issues with gay people but , if they happen to choose a better computer than the rest of the sheep out there more power to them.

Lets stop the witch hunt you IT (Insecure & Terrified) guys.

  6. This is so stupid I shouldn’t even comment it.

If fact, I’ll just state it’s plain stupid.

I’m an heterosexual, and I love my Mac. My brother is heretosexual too and loves his Mac. I have a friend who is gay and also loves his Mac. What’s the difference? We ALL love the Mac because it’s an awesome product.

(I was going to say “You know what would be REALLY gay? A pink Zune!”, but I don’t want to offend all the smart gay people I know)

  7. Wow! It never even crossed my mind that using a Mac was gay?!?

Having thought about it, perhaps the traditional association with graphic arts, has this ignoramus comingling Mac users with gays. I wouldn’t at all be surprised if more gays used Macs, though Dell is now offering laptops in cute colors, not Apple.

  8. Always note what gay guys are doing, we have the money and we shop smart! So of course we buy apple computers, gays guys are smarter and know a good deal when they see one.
(this is typed from my mac pro book on wireless internet, in the public wash room while tapping my foot)

  9. I think the deciding factor in the Mac vs. PC debate is not your sexual preference, but your intelligence level.

If you’ve got an ounce of sense, you’ll quickly grasp that you get what you pay for (no prostitution pun intended).

Mac users get that…PC users may NEVER get it.

    Peace.

  10. “I think that in the early days the majority of people using Macs were creative types that were in the graphic and music profession so just because you have god forbid a little flair or personality you are typecast as being a homosexual.”

please stop spreading the myth that straight men have personalities…..

  11. That people use “gay” as an insult is precisely why I absolutely despise that “X is so gay” saying that people have been using. And those people have the nerve to claim it has nothing to do with gay people. Bullshite.

Even after reading the article, as well-intended as it seems to be, I’m still miffed. There’s an implicit “gay = effiminate = unmanly” bias through the whole thing. I have gay friends who could intimidate the crap out of a Hell’s Angel, and others who have a bolt of chiffon drop out of their mouths when they speak. Whoop-de-freakin’-do. I love my friends either way. I kinda fall in the middle, just a regular guy who happens to be gay, like most of the guys I know.

IMO, the only response to this “Goofball IT Drone” person is, “You’re an asshat.” But maybe he’ll read the article and be embarassed when he recognizes himself in it. And maybe, other people who think the same or similar things will be a little embarrassed, too.
