“Apple’s latest build of Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard is the first to sport signs of finishing touches,” Think Secret reports.

“Build 9A527, distributed last week to developers, represents a substantial improvement over the previous build, 9A499. On the whole, the build performs faster and has far fewer bugs than before,” Think Secret reports.

“In addition, 9A527 features a new installer graphic, new space-themed Welcome movie, new space-themed desktop, and for the first time Mail now lists the new features of version 3.0, not the previous 2.0 Tiger placeholder,” Think Secret reports.

“The Mac OS X interface also continues to show signs of refinement since the major changes introduced in build 9A466. In partciular, toolbar elements are more defined while the gem-like window controls are bolder and more saturated in appearance,” Think Secret reports. “Virtually every application in build 9A527 also sports a new high-resolution icon.”

  1. I hate the new springing folders in the dock. I usually make folders full of alias icons for apps, and also put all local volumes in the Dock so I can right-click and get access to everything. But the new springing folders don’t let you right-click and drill down through the file system, they only let you left-click to bring up the contents.
    Me no like. 🙁

    MW: ‘why’ (?)

  2. I feel ambivalent about MDN posting this… It is supporting someone who is breaking their word to Apple as a developer that they will not show other people this kind of stuff. However, I like Mac porn as much as anyone else. So I’m going to go check it out and ignore my faint conscience.

MDNMW: “shall” as in “thou shall not…”

  3. According to ThinkSecret, Apple has removed some of the voices from Leopard’s VoiceOver Utility.

What the hell. I want my money back. Where does Apple get off thinking they can remove features that I use daily. Now I can’t have Bubbles speak my time to me on the hour… They should have at least gave it a new name like Mac OS Y.

  4. Try # Two:
    You guys are spot on,
and have been for a long while.
Visit at least a couple of times a day,
    (you check it.)
    Love MDN.
HATE HATE HATE Rollover Expanding Ads:
The definition of Negative Time and Space.
Safari 3 is just a tiny bit quicker and we love it.
We love our Macs because of efficiency,
and the absence of things unnecessary.
I just can’t believe it takes a Mac site to force me to keep my Web Content/Enable plugins Check box
in the bottom right corner of my desktop.
    Come on MDN, please reconsider…
    Thanks in advance,

(Yeah, that was me going postal the other day,
    sorry about that.)

  5. So I’m looking at the screen shots of the last build (9A499) and i notice that the screen sharing image (picture-9) has “Admin’s PowerMac G4” in the title bar.

Whaaaa? Leopard runs on a G4? Really and for true?

    ‘Cause that would rock.

  6. Your attempt at humor by denigrating the thousands of iLife 08 users who are seriously disappointed with the new iMovie would be accurate if it read something like this…

“According to ThinkSecret, Apple has removed the graphical interface from Leopard. Now we’re back to the green screen, and even BIOS. It’s simpler and easier for people to use. What the hell. I want my money back. Where does Apple get off thinking they can remove features that I use daily like email, web browsing, checkbook balancing, word processing and others too numerous to mention. Now I can’t use my Mac to do anything other than simple tasks like checking the time, rebooting, and staring at my full screen resolution of 240i! They should have at least gave it a new name like Kitten, or MagicLeopard.”

MDN word is “He’s” as in, iMovie ’08 Hater – he’s such a simple dweeb.

  7. I’m really not diggin’ the space theme. I would have thought it was cool when I was 13 and reading Star Wars books… but times have changed. It looks way too 1980’s “futuristic” for my tastes. It’s cheap.

We’ll see what the final build affords. If nothing else, maybe they’ll polish the background a bit more to make it more… uhh… polished, spiffy, professional….? Something…

  8. One has the ability to block their computer from contacting ad servers and other parasites of the internet.

1: Learn how to edit with Pico or Vi
2: Learn how to edit your /etc/hosts file, need admin user.
3: Paste the file you find on this page to the bottom of your /etc/hosts file, it’s the best on the net.

    http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

4: You need to know Vi or Pico well enough to be able to select the old addition and replace it with new updated versions availalbe at the same web site.

5: Save a copy of the original unchanged /etc/hosts file just in case you need to revert to it from the command line if OS X fails to load.

  9. As for the Space theme: Welcome the soft intro to OS XI.

Saturn, Neptune, Mars, Mercury, Yerbutt… Jupiter, Rosie O’Donnell.

Think different. Think big. Think Rosie.

Ok, ok… seriously. Space seems like a reasonable approach to me– much more so than a cats theme intended to portray the brand in terms of strength and agility (and fur). In the next decade of OS and gizmo releases, we’re entering new ground. Star Trek for real.

    Some name suggestions:

    OS X Mork: Nanoo-Nanoo.
OS X O’Hura: Is that a tribble in your pocket?
OS X shallowHAL: I am SOOOoooOOO not going to let you do that, Dave.

Yes, I’ll be here all night…
