Apple preps Mac OS X 10.4.11 Update

“Apple on Tuesday afternoon began informing a select group of developers that it plans at least one more maintenance update to its Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger operating system ahead of October’s planned release of Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard,” Slash Lane reports for AppleInsider.

“Since developers have yet to received the first pre-release seeds of the software update, details outside of the version numbering — Mac OS X 10.4.11 — are few and far between,” Lane reports.

Oh, all right: “This One Goes to 11.”

  1. The number of fixes shouldn’t be a big surprise here. Apple is having so many problems with the iphone that they don’t have the resources to fix the ever increasing mountain of operating system bugs Too bad that Apple can’t compete with real smart phone companies like RIM that have fantastic push technology. Heck, you can’t even use the iphone as a tethered modem or use the Bluetooth headset to listen to music. How can a company that is tightly tied to user interfaces and customer experiences screw up this badly? Who knows, maybe Steve needs to spend more time making kids movies rather then trying to compete in markets he doesn’t understand?

Time to wait a long time for Leopard – never install a product the developer doesn’t understand. Maybe 2097 would be a good year to look at this OS and see if Apple fixed it yet.

Vista blew away OSX in 4 months. Wait until Windows 7 comes out – Microsoft will blow past Apple in 2 days.

  2. gotta love macheads trying to spread misinformation about Vista. it’s an amazing OS and it’s why it’s going to pass OSX total share in 6 months. Why couldn’t Apple get some share in the YEARS since OSX debut? Consumers have even had to suffer watching those commercials saying “Look, we use Intel now, please buy us!” “No buyers yet? PLEASE! Ok. We’ll copy PCs again and let you have two mouse buttons” “NONE YET? WE’RE STILL NOT INCREASING!!!!! FINE! run Windows on your mac!11!!1”

Face it. Macs suck. Make an informed decision and get Windows Vista today!

  3. To the Windows trolls,

“Microsoft, makers of the best POS (Pile of Sh–) in the world. OUR CRAP is bigger and smeller than theirs, so you know which one to buy. (Ignore the little crawly things, they are not bugs, only feature enhancements!! ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” /> )”

“– God these people will buy anything we tell them to. . . . What do you mean, the mic is still on. !!!!! 🙁 “

    Overheard in a back room at Redmond. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” />

    MDN word = peace. funny. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” />

  4. I heard Apple’s having trouble, too. They’ve been tripping over their mountains of cash. Today, I heard they caused a quick sell-off to try and un-bury Phil Schiller before he suffocated under a heap of twenties.

  5. “Gotta love the fanatics who comment on an article about Apple fixing fuck-ups in their code by changing the subject to “Microsoft sucks”. Have some more Kool Aid douche bags.”

At least Apple fixes their fsck ups. In the same vein, any news on Vista Service Pack 1?

  6. This “Mac Realist” is nothing of the sort.

Mac Realist, if you check out “my” posts, you’ll notice that I try to be realistic. I am a Mac user, but try to give my honest opinion without the usual fanboy drooling.

There is nothing “realistic” about your posts. Vista is a flop on any level. It’s an overly bloated pile of garbage.

You rants about Leopard’s delay for the sake of iPhone might be somewhat valid (I’m getting a little sick of All iPhone – All the Time) but the Developer’s Betas of 10.5 blow away the release versions of Vista. How far ahead do you figure Leopard will be when the final version is released?

I’m quite sure Leopard is going to run very well on ALL of my Macs, from my old (2003) 800 ibook, 1.42 iBooks, to my Intel Mini.

How many PCs over 2 years old will Vista run properly on???

    Yeah, that’s what I thought.

  7. “Since developers have yet to received . . .”

What kind of weird ass subject-verb duchy did this keep caming from?
    Future past perfect land?

I believe that’s what would be referred to on Red Dwarf as “Past Impossible Never Tense.” ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />

  8. All I know is that I picked up my first Mac today and I’m in love. Got a shiny, new 15″ MacBook Pro. The computer itself is a work of art. OS X is beautiful. I can’t believe I let myself suffer with Windows and mediocre PCs for so many years. Talk about wasted time!

Seriously, folks, Apple deserves a look. Microsoft really let us down with Vista and we shouldn’t reward them for it.

  9. as of now, we are still running XP at my place of employment, with traces of 2000, and even 98 still lingering… no word on Vista even hitting our mains, as it would require COMPLETE overhaul of thousands of terminals. Yes, I still get calls on fixes daily, and yes, I still come home to 4 macs running either Tiger or Panther just fine. Life is good. Jeff, Welcome to Macdom! Please ask if you have any questions, as we all work and play together!

  10. Mac OS X 10.4.11?

Thank the good Lord above. 10.4.10 is possibly one of the worst system updates since Mac OS 9.1. For 3 minutes and 12 seconds, I actually looked through the PC ads at Best Buy. I’m over it now, but it was close.
