“Steve Jobs visited the Regent Street store on Sunday, leading to speculation that he’s in town to finalize an exclusive iPhone contract with an undisclosed UK cellular carrier,” ifoAppleStore reports.

Jonny Evans reports for Macworld UK, “Jobs’ presence in the UK could be on account of meetings with the mobile phone networks here.”
“In the UK, O2 was most recently reported to be the front-running candidate for distributing the product in this country, with former front-runner Vodafone reportedly abandoning such plans because it was unhappy with the revenue sharing deal demanded by Apple,” Evans reports. “T-Mobile and Orange have also been named as potential carriers in recent reports.”

Let’s hope that in France it will be Orange. Who cares about the UK! 😀
Sure… speculate about every/large mobile phone company and you’ll cover the basis! They forgot to mention 3, Virgin, and BT!!! ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />
How long is AT&T’s exclusive here in the US?
@ nukeman
BT’s mobile business was renamed o2 years ago and sold off meanwhile Virgin are just an MVNO bu your point ia taken.
What about Spain? Telefonica or Orange would be nice.
Apple is partnered with AT&T for the next 5 years for the iPhone.
He is probably there for Al Gore’s “Earth in a Lurch” concert.
Jobs should get his ass home and get a fix for low-volume receiver, speaker, and ringer problems on iPhones. Numerous complaints on Apple discussion forums.
Fix the problem!!!
AT&T is the exclusive carrier for iPhone through at least 2009, not 5 years (while the deal could obviously extend longer than that, no announcement has been made).

Maybe Steve just wanted ukelele lessons from Sir Paul.
“Maybe Steve just wanted ukelele lessons from Sir Paul.”
Isn’t that a Mandolin that Paul has been playing lately?
It has been my experience over the past 3 score years that if one listens seriously to the hysterical rantings and ravings of discussion board frequenters (as valid as SOME of their concerns might be), he or she will never buy anything, anything at all.
The lunatic fringe on Apple’s MacBook Pro forum had me believing that each and every one of those marvelous machines was an anti-personnel device just waiting to go off. I finally realized that many (most?) of the grousers there had nothing better to do with their lives than to find fault with every little inadequacy around them.
“It’s too hot in here! It’s too cold in here! It’s too . . . in-between in here!”
My new 17″ MBP arrived last week, and it has been performing flawlessly around the clock ever since. Truth is, most people’s problems lie not in their stars, but in themselves–which leads to the inevitable conclusion, I think, that most publicly-posted opinions are worthless.
Including this one.
“Isn’t that a Mandolin that Paul has been playing lately?”
YOU LYRE ! ! !
Just kidding. I’m a bit strung out this morning. No need to fret.

If France was going to be any colour, it would be yellow.

What a short memory the French have, was it not France who upset Apple with all that Shit about iTunes !!!
“French lawmakers are scheduled to vote Tuesday on a new copyright law that could result in a slew of music download services competing for iPod users’ dollars in the European nation.”
The French law would force the iPod maker to open its platform to music downloads from competing services. Apple sells about 3 million songs a day for 99 cents each, and sold its 1 billionth digital song last month. The law could take a bite out of Apple’s foreign revenues.

Need I say anymore ….
I’m on orange in the UK at the moment, so that would be the best bet for me – but any of the networks which have signal back home (in the sticks of Wales) will be welcomed.
I also hope that the price comparison with the US will be negligible. If they price it at the same number (ie. £599) then I won’t be buying one for years yet. If its under £400 then I’ll plump for it. Also the contract should be under £50 a month, including unlimited web browsing…
Please Steve – announce the iPhone UK deal!!
