“There’s a simple way that anyone, anywhere can buy [TV shows and movies] from the U.S. iTunes store,” Adam Turner reports for Hydrapinion.
Turner reports, “When you shop at an iTunes store it checks the nationality of your credit card before allowing you to download files. There’s plenty of movies and TV shows for sale on the US iTunes store but you can only buy them if you have a US credit card. While it’s possible for people outside the US to wrangle themselves a US credit, there’s a much easier solution – PayPal.”
Turner reports, “All you need to do is create PayPal account with US postal address, but you can still link it to your Australian credit card. Then you need to use the same US address when you register for the US iTunes store. Any address will do, 1 Infinite Loop, Cupertino is popular. Now as far as the iTunes store is concerned you’re a resident of the home of the free and the land of the brave.”

There are all manner of relatively easy ways to get around credit card restrictions. U.S. iTunes gift cards are pretty easy to find on eBay. Buy one, create a new U.S. iTunes account (you do have to enter a U.S. address – say, 123 Main St., Lower Uppertown, Iowa), apply your iTunes card number to it, and voila … U.S. iTunes from anywhere on the planet.

I have a main account for .mac, ichat, email, iweb and 2 other for the countries with music of intrest of movies.
Have bought from all 3, and have all content in the same iTunes library.
Ok, that’s one problem out of the way. Now, how about opening up non-US iTunes stores for US residents. Even if the same PayPal trick could be used in reverse, it’s a pain in the ass. Most workarounds always are. That’s one reason I don’t use Doze anymore.
Doesn’t work for me. I opened a US PayPal account, gave a valid US address. Then when I tried to link a Canadian credit card to the account, it would only allow me to use a US address as the billing address. United States was the only option when entering a new billing address. Drat.
Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to work the other way, because Apple doesn’t have the PayPal option in other countries…

Hmmmm, I looked at his site. He wanted to create a home media computer so he did the usual PC thing. He got parts from everywhere, pasted them together and voila, crap. !!
Comments recommended changing out everything including the OS he wanted to use, Vista home premium.

that’s been my biggest complaint about iTunes – I live in the U.S. and i can’t buy songs from the iTunes UK store. Even with a gift card purchase. Does anyone know how a U.S. user can buy iTunes songs from other countires? There must be some way???

This idea doesnt work, I tried it last year when Paypal support was introduced. Paypal check the billing address of each credit or debit card when added to an account – if it isnt in the US, they bounce the card.
Also – adding funds from a UK account, into a US account – then trying to pay with the US one doesnt work either, as Apple have configured Paypal to insist on a debit/credit card!

If Paypal requires a US billing address for a CC, why wouldn’t they require the same from someone signing up down under?

And while I’m at it, why can’t we use PayPal for the Apple store?
We can’t even send an iTunes gift certificate to someone in another country, let alone be able to shop in another country’s iTunes store. Just do away with such restrictive licenses and make it simple and truly global.

Maybe people were starting to do this and Apple corrected the verification method. Maybe that’s why everyone who is trying now isn’t able to get an account.
They can’t sell anything from the U.S. store to other countries because of the good old record labels who forbid this. DRM crap and all that. Apple would love to be able to combine everything into one store for all but because of our lovely GREEDY record labels around the world this isn’t possible, yet. Maybe when Apple pushes music for sale WITHOUT DRM things will change.

This does not work. When I created the paypal account with a US address and added some funds, iTunes would still not accept it because PayPal will not complete the iTunes verification until you add at least one credit or debit card tot he account. The only way to use the US iTunes store is to have a legitimate US credit card.
I’m a Canadian and tried this with my Visa…didn’t work, because PayPal verifies the billing address of the credit card just as iTunes would, so I can’t put a fake American address in.
Then I read the original article, in which the author writes, “Not being an iTunes users, I haven’t tried this…”
