Apple airs iPhone teaser ad during Oscars

arn reports for MacRumors:

Apple aired their teaser ad for the Apple iPhone during the Oscars tonight. The ad has run multiple times during the Oscars.

The advertisement started with a collection of scenes from television and film with actors saying “Hello” on a telephone. The scenes are played in rapid succession, and the iPhone appears on the screen. Then a black screen with the words: “Hello” … then … “Coming in June” and finally an Apple logo.

  1. Wish it would’ve aired during the Super Bowl, but now that is hindsight. I would have aired the phone one more second showing a finger sliding across it to activate it or maybe a finger speed scrolling I would also have displayed the logo one more second with apple.com. It worked and planted the subconscious seed, though…effective…simple…nice ad.

  2. The issue with Cisco was settled last week. That’s more than enough time to put the word “iPhone” into the commercial. It would take a production house less than an hour. Besides that, it would’ve been easy enough to have an alternate version all ready to go.

All of us here are well aware of the iPhone, sure. But I guarantee you, go door to door and the rank and file person has never heard of it. Most people just don’t pay the kind of attention to these things that Apple dudes like us do.

  3. In order to get this ad in the “can” for tonights show, I’m certain it had to be completed at least 2 weeks ago, thus no mention of iPhone or iPhone branding, as the fight was still going on.
You’d think they would have been able to change it last minute, but it doesn’t matter – a great teaser for sure. Even without the mention of iPhone.

What an outstanding piece of advertising work. There was a whole lot of talent saying “Hello”. Their marketing department is not only brilliant. They kick a**.

    Wow! Can’t wait.

  4. Al Gorey. Wot a larf. 10 years from now it’ll be about global cooling. That is unless the libs lay down and let the terrorists nuke us. That’ll be real global warming, and don’t say we weren’t warned about bowing down to golden idols. Bye-bye oscar.

  5. I think they didn’t use iPhone because it has been on everyone’s lips since the beginning of January. It’s already so iconic that it’s unnecessary.

I disagree. Everyone who follows the tech news may know about the iPhone, but most of the however-many-gazillion viewers of the Academy Awards never heard of the iPhone. Fortunately, anyone who is curious after seeing the ad needs to know only one thing: Apple.com

I agree with those who think it’s just plain stupid that the name “iPhone” doesn’t even appear in the ad.

  6. The Wow is about to start… for real this time.
    Awesome ad once again.
Hey Rara… The Microsoft Wow ad looks nothing like a Microsoft ad. In fact, They have tried to emulate the Apple spirit with it as mush as they’ve tried to emulate their OS. Just poorly…

  7. Piss off Ron.

There is global scientific concensus on the matter of climate change – it’s happening and it’s caused by human activity.

    Case closed.

Besides, where’s the negative in NOT poluting the planet, i.e. NOT shitting in our own nest???

And if you think your beloved neocon’s foreign policy adventures have been a success, you’re in serious need of an education. It’s Vietnam all over again.

Those who fail to learn from their mistakes are destined to repeat them. It’s just so sad that so many other people have to suffer because of their stupidity.

  8. I.e. if someone can change music I wil buy this.
