Apple releases iTunes Repair Tool for Vista, advises Windows iTunes users wait to upgrade to Vista – February 02, 2007
iTunes and quicktime appear to be functioning fine on my Vista install.
They are completely fresh installs with no content in them, nor will there ever likely be. I use my Macs for that.
I am able to watch movie trailers in HD off of the Apple site-so it appears to work fine.
My little Vista box is only used to play WoW or one or 2 other games with all the graphics bells and whistles enabled, everything else is done on my Macs.
It wouldn’t surprise me if MS designed Vista so it would break third party antivirus, music, and office-like apps.
They did it to java and netscape and many others in the past.
Vista compatibilty will come out once Leopard launches….why give people an excuse to upgrade to Vista early by making their Apple apps work with it. This way, Apple can move them to Leopard instead.
This could actually hurt Apple. They need to get Vista compatible versions out the door asap. It’s all about perception, not reality, and the perception does not look good if Apple cannot get out working version – Vista, in all its crappy existence did not appear over night.
Apple, as a Windows developer has access to all the Vista builds and codebase. It’s hard to excuse Apple in this case. If they want to present themselves as the best Windows developer (as they claimed when they released iTunes for Windows), they need to act like it.
Just the way I see it.
No Microsoft-software is compatible with OS X neither, and I won’t comment further on this.
Don’t try it at home.
Take your time Apple … how about 5 years

The word is getting out about the Mac. The following link is to a positive article about Macs aimed towards Window users. The author seems to have just discovered “Boot Camp” and is writing many positive things about Apple and the Mac (Macbook Pro’s) in particular.
The word is getting out – apparently slowly. (Note: the article is long at 6 pages but you can jump around easily via the TOC.)

Peace.
Clarification: I mean crushed as in disappointed.

But (mw) I wouldn’t object to other interpretations
what’s the hold up?
Quicktime 7.1.3 works on Vista on final build 6000 and beta Rc2 build 5744 here is the Proof

And people whine about how Apple was playing dirty pool by formally suggesting that PC users of iTunes should avoid upgrading to Vista for a few weeks until Apple can upgrade iTunes. Mafiashaft knew damn well that Vista was breaking every single one of Apple’s products and purposely didn’t do a damn thing to remedy the situation. I’ll bet twenty bucks the Mafiashaft’s programmers gave extra attention to Vista’s code to insure it 1) broke EVERY one, and 2) was cleverly coded in a way that made it look innocent.
My only consolation in all of this is that the damn fool betrayed in several of his latest interviews what annoys him most in the world: that so many people think so highly of Steve Jobs (he mentions Jobs by name, not Apple).
Bill Gates can give away 95% of his money but he will never go down in history like John D. Rockefeller did. Gates will simply be known as very lucky businessman who goal in life was simple: “seize it all and crush all who oppose you.” He will go down in history simply as an evil bastard who gave away all his money in a futile effort to buy good fame.
As I occasionally have to use PCs, Gates is a bug splat on my windshield of life. Screw him.
Ohh, come on Greg L. Don’t hold back. What to you REALLY think about Gates.
” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />
Truth is, I think Bill Gates is a god.
And how long will it take for Microsoft to make Zune compatible with Vista?!?
The whole thing is just a massive great mess.
And how long will it take for Microsoft to make Zune compatible with Vista?!?
Answer: One day. The process is seamless.
The Quicktime 7.1.3 is working on Vista Fine as nekogami13 mentioned. I dont know why apple listed as its not compatible.
I think history will be far more kind to Bill Gates than Greg L (above) does.
You have no idea how badly behaved the Rockefellers, Carnegies, JP Morgan, and other robber barons were in their day. Most of that is forgotten now, a century or more later.
The same will be true of Bill and Melinda Gates 100 years from now.
Developing a vaccine for malaria, funding widespread vaccination against childhood diseases, addressing AIDS in Africa, finding new cures for leishmaniasis, helping homeless families, calling attention to third world problems that go unaddressed by capitalism and globalization — these are the building blocks of the philanthropic record upon which the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will be judged.
With all of the problems that Vista is having with installation, hardware drivers, etc, lets just give Apple a little break here. Regardless of what we think Apple should have been doing before Vista was released, they will get the updates out in short order – I’m fully confident of this. Why? Because regardless of what platform is used, Apple’s windows customers who own iPods, hold Apple accountable to do this. There are a lot of them out there too.
Remember that Vista code had a lot of changes made in the 11th hour, and most vendors have waited for the final code to be released first.
Note too that Apple customers are still waiting for an intel version of Microsoft Office.
I think Apple is being rather childish about this and with iTunes they’re either incompetent in not doing their testing or are playing a dangerous game.
What would happen if Microsoft announced that MS Office didn’t work on the next version of OS X? There would be outrage. Apple need to spend more time communicating the positives of Apple and OS X instead of just slagging off Vista. Vista’s getting enough poor or lukewarm press that it doesn’t need Apple having a go, it just makes some people resent Apple more.
Apple,
You’ve had FIVE years to make these apps compatible. WTF is the problem?
Then again, considering Vista is just a bloated XP, there’s no excuse for anything to break. Forget quality, one has to wonder if MS really spent their time figuring out how to break apps.
Do I smell a double double-cross?
Why is this an issue since the goal is for PC users to switch?

” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />
Al, don’t get me started on Office. I bought 8 licenses for Office for X, and Microsoft STILL has not made it fully compatible with OS X.
Ever try to view Tasks from Outlook sesrver on a Mac? Ever try to view Contact folders on Outlook Server from a Mac? Get real.
To where’s the rat?:
Apple had to wait until Vista was released because they were not sure what functionality Microsoft was going to drop next from Vista.

” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />
SP3 in a Box, baby.
Guys. Some of you think that Steve jobs gives a damn about Office. Well think about this. How hard is it to make a good Office suite? One that can read and write MS Office Docs? And now they are going to output in XML format it is just getting easier.
If Microsoft pull the plug so what. In many ways Apple already have a way nicer suite of Office Apps. Keynote is already a PPT beater and Pages does pretty much everything the average user needs plus it allows those with no taste to use templates. There’s already rumours about a new spreadsheet app. Hopefully we will get a choice of either the traditional style or a modeller like Lotus Improv. Personally I wish they would buy Flexisheet and finish it. It showed promise.
In general, Apple’s line-up of software is much slicker than MS’s Look at what Apple either developed from scratch or own. Final Cut Pro. DVD Studio Pro, Shake, Motion, Logic, etc. etc. Compare the quality and simple power to the MS Office suite and why worry. I would switch to an Apple Office suite tomorrow. I have Neo Office at the mo and it has all you need but I just think MS Office and all of the open source clones are just too damn bloated.
Looks lie an OS storm is brewing and I think it’s MS’s time to go down.
Be compatible or die. 2 percent and shrinking.
