MarketWatch asks for ‘CEO of the year’ nominations

Who would you nominate for CEO of the Year?

Now is your chance to let MarketWatch know who you think should be considered for their Readers’ Choice 2006 CEO of the Year Award.

Last year, Herbalife Ltd.’s Michael Johnson leapfrogged several of the best-known U.S. chief executives to win the MarketWatch Readers’ Choice CEO of the Year award, topping such notables as Apple Computer Inc.’s Steven Jobs.

Nominate a CEO in 3 easy steps here.

You know what to do.

  1. I am the senior design manager at MarketWatch and a Mac evangelist. You do not know how gratifying it was to see MDN promote my work! I would like to say to vote from your heart, not just to skew the results.

And while officially I can not support the actions of MDN I had a feeling this would happen. With that said, I hope the best CEO wins! ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />

  2. Woo hoo! Nice to see when something you refer makes it up on the site.

But anyway, go Steve Jobs. He has my vote. Owning his company’s stock has netted me some nice discretionary income. I just wish it kicked out some dividends. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” />

  3. I nominate Steve “MonkeyBoy” Ballmer. He is doing more to help the Mac resurrence than anyone I can think of who doesn’t work for Apple. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />

Ooh, I see a chair hurled my way, Duck!

  4. Microsoft stock pays dividends. Ask for dividends from companies that don’t invest your stock money heavily into research and development of new technologies.

By not paying you a kickback, Apple has grown at an unprecedented pace and is poised to storm past rivals at a speed that will blind people.

Be glad Apple does not pay dividends.

  5. I Nominate Steven R. Ballmer for his incredible creativity and steadfastness under undeserved and relentless attacts by those who can’t appreciate a great operating system when they see one. What a wonderful man and creative genius. Ballmer, Ballmer, Ballmer, Ballmer, Ballmer!!

  6. okay newbie here, 2 month convert

have seen referances on this site many times

Balmer and “Ooh, I see a chair hurled my way, Duck”

let me in on the fun, anyone have a link to this event,

by the way, when asked in the poll why I voted for the person, i pasted this link

  7. norm, which Enron CEO would you nominate, Ken Lay (who’s dead and couldn’t be sentenced) or Jeff Skilling (who was just put away for 24 years)?

It seems like both Karma and the justice system are working just fine.

As for thhe poll, I nominate Rob Glaser, who has done everything in his power to maximize returns for the shareholders of Krispy Kreme.

  8. Here’s mine:

Steve leads a group of talented people, and consistently knows how to get the most out of their performance. Steve has been with Apple for all of its major accomplishments, and is the driving force for Apple’s success now and in the future. Apple’s products are always innovative, and attention is paid to the details of their products, both hardware and software. If the devil is in the details, he looks like Steve Jobs.

  9. … clearly deserves this award, this year especially, and certainly over Steve Jobs.

While Apple has done very well financially in 2006, Berkshire Hathaway has done very well both this year AND over its entire existence. Further, while Jobs is embroiled in legal troubles regarding stock options, Buffett has been squeaky clean his entire career (and financial services is an industry that lends itself to dirt much more than the technology sector). Last, and most significant, Buffett in 2006 donated most of his vast fortune (2nd in size only to Bill Gates’) to charity.

Best CEO in 2006? Hell, Buffett’s probably deserving of that title for the last 40 years. Jobs has done well, but still has a bit more to prove in comparison – as does any other living CEO I can think of.

  10. HotinPlaya – Welcome to the Mac platform.

Maybe we got this chair throwing incident all wrong. Perhaps Ballmer was trying to “squirt” Mark Lucovsky a chair to use for his last three days?

Expect to hear about similar tirades in the near future from Zune users as they try to figure out Zune’s interface. Ballmer must have been using a prototype.

    Peace.
