Apple highlights Mac OS X strengths in new ad campaign

“Frequently when you see Apple ads they focus on nothing but the machine’s design. While the Apple is certainly a striking machine, people do actually have to use these machines. The two most common worries potential switchers who don’t use Apples worry about are price and the OS’s ability to do modern things, and all too often neither of which is addressed in the usual TV spot or magazine ad. As an Apple investor and user, it’s always good to see an ad that points out that yes, you can actually check your email and browse the web and do spreadsheets on an Apple. Due to an almost decade long period of relative incompatibility and decreasing market share, many people have some very odd core beliefs about the capabilities of Apple machines,” Tobias Buckell reports for Blogging Stocks.

“Now there is a sign that Apple is moving to correct some of this a bit more firmly. MacDailyNews points out that the September 8th issue of Entertainment Weekly will feature a fourteen page pull out booklet that directly addresses some of these concerns as well as actually shows potential buyers what the operating system looks like,” Buckell reports.

Buckell reports, “The operating system that runs the Apple [Mac] is truly a more interesting feature than how the machines look, and Apple needs to highlight it more. Actually showing people the OS that people will be using on a daily basis if they get a machine and not just talking about it is more important, don’t you think?”

  1. Apple’s getting scared because Microsoft is going to spend $900 million to heavily promote Vista. And Vista is the best-looking version of Windows. Joe and Jane Consumer don’t care what is under the hood of Vista. It looks great and Joe and Jane will want to buy it.

Apple should’ve started advertising OS X a long time ago.

  2. Well, Vista’s not out yet…and chances are, Joe and Jane Consumer will have to buy a new computer to use Vista anyway.

So, they’re talking about the upcoming purchase:

Joe: Well, we could go out and get a new Dell so we can run Vista…

Jane: And then we have to install all that anti-virus and anti-spyware software…remember that Paris Hilton virus you got us stuck with? It took two weeks to clear it out.

    Joe: (blushes) Yes dear…

Jane: Sam and Sandy Smart have one of those new 24inch iMacs; they haven’t had a single problem. Sandy was even able to do a web site for the fifth grade class with the whole year’s schedule. I’d like to do that for Jackie’s class. And did you see the movie their daughter Sheryl made? She gave Janet a copy, and it was great.

Joe: Yeah — Sam was telling me that he can even run Windows programs that his company uses so he can work from home more often. You know, there’s an Apple Store down at the mall — we could go check it out this weekend…

Jane: Why not tonight, and you can take the family out to dinner?

  3. Apple was not really ready to go to war until now. OS X Tiger is far ahead of what Vista can ever hope to be, so Apple is ready on that score. Leopard will take a huge jump extending that lead. And now, the Intel transition is complete and Microsoft is having huge problems. It is time to start the attack in earnest.

  4. I question how long some of these guys have been around who think Apple’s ads have been on target for the past few years. They have been image ads and nothing more. Yet far more has been needed. Prodigal Son seems to have it. Apple has seemingly been holding back for years. Some questioned whether there had been a secret personal deal with MS after it loaned Apple all the money. Well, looking at the big picture now, there has never been a better time for Apple to make a move. A BIG move. Done right, I don’t see how Apple can lose. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a doubling of market share in the next 24 months and a tripling within 36 months. All is now in place and more is on the way. No one can hold a candle to what Apple is doing. Linux Guy (Prodigal Son) is right: “It is time to start the attack in earnest.”

  5. Dumbest thing I heard about an Apple computer was: “I can’t buy a Mac! I need to be able to use e-mail and surf the web. I don’t do artwork.” Old impressions sure do die hard, and harder when not snuffed out by the seller.

So everybody knows what an iPod is and does, but far less are informed on “The World’s Best Operating System.”

The stupidity of such poor marketing of a strategic advantage is so illogical it’s, well, almost “Ballmeresque.”

  6. It looks like Apple is going to reach that goal of theirs to move their market share up .000000000000000001%

    Go Apple…..

Apple lost too long ago..the’ll never make it back..They should of licensed OS X a long time ago..As I always say…
