“With few details available, the validity of this remains uncertain, but Electronista claims that Apple may be holding a special press event on September 12th, 2006 based on an ‘official’ email sent to Your Mac Life,” arn reports for MacRumors.
arn reports, “The date corresponds to the start of Apple Expo Paris which runs from September 12th to 16th. It has already been announced, however, that there will be no Keynote event for the Apple Expo.”
Full article here.
Note: We have no confirmation of this reported event. Note also that the “Buy a Mac, get a free iPod nano” promo for college students ends on September 16th. Any significance to that chosen date?

Let the Overzealous Unrealistic Apple Expectation Machine (OUEAM) begin its massive overhype.
Then, when it’s just a new shuffle or whatever, all the fanboys can start whining in unison about how Apple has somehow personally cheated them out of the goodness of life, and that they need to start taking care of the rabid fanbase by giving anyone who’s ever bought a Mac a free one.
Oh yes, you all know what I’m talking about.
Please let this be true. Options expiration is Sept 15 and I have several thousand shares at stake here.
New iPod phone
Widescreen gestures enabled video iPod with Wi-Fi

I think Steve is going to announce that Apple and Disney (he is on the board there) will be testing a new email tracking system. Everyone who forwards the email will get a new car, free Disney vacation, and $1000 per recipient of the forwarded mail. Think about it people!! Why do you think Apple and Disney merged? It was the Biblical fulfillment of the email tracking prophesy!
Repent or perish!
Lick me, beat me, take away my credit card . . . . I need new stuff!!!

September 12th will be good – if we can get through September 11th without any trouble.
I was just thinking that, are things not allowed to happen on september 11th anymore? I wonder how long this will continue.
Whew! Glad I’m not the only one with several thousand shares at stake. </sarcasm>
Hmmm… a thousand shares at $67.85 is worth $67,850, so several thousand shares would be worth… a lot more.
Watchoo doin’ hangin’ out at MDN, anyway?
MW aid — someone should come to my aid with several thousand shares of Apple stock.
October 3rd Declared “Day Against DRM”
http://defectivebydesign.org/en/blog/announce_day_against_drm
New iPod is coming, 16:9 aspect ratio, larger screen.
These Defective by Design fags should be protesting against Trusted Computing.
YES I CALL THEM FAGS because they are ignorant idiots.
DRM is nothing and pales incomparison next to a nearly invisible firmware level that acts like a operating system, connects to the internet and generally intercepts anything the OS sends to the hardware. That’s EFI in Intel based Mac’s.
Oh Steve Jobs is talking sweet, but a noose is slowly going around our necks.
chris: “I was just thinking that, are things not allowed to happen on september 11th anymore? I wonder how long this will continue.”
Things still happen – people are just not inviting you.
So our mission will be to drive a beatup old van with “NO TRUSTED COMPUTING” right into Apple’s NY shiny glass cube.
That’s reall balls for you, screw this lame as yellow raincoat protesting.
Grow some balls or be Defective by Design

First, my PowerBook battery sucks then my airport reception sucks. out
I returned to the Mac world two years ago this fall. When I did, I bought a PB G4 12″, with a buy a Mac get an iPod promotion. Although I still enjoy my 20gb iPod – when that promotion ended – Apple introduced a new line of Ipods. Damn.
So now I wait til’ January for the new OS – and a new desktop Mac. Maybe splurge for a new iPod too – if it has some nifty new features.
Just say no…..
Could you please provide a link to some further information on EFI. I don’t know much about it but I have heard that it can restrict what you can and cannot do on your computer.
Apple’s Euro HQ is in Cork, Ireland.
Little Snitch is a OS based outgoing firewall, it does not work in EFI.

anybody else see the connection between the largest OS update in Apple history (10.4.8) that was just seeded to developers AND the sept 12th announcement??
they HAVE to be connected.
discuss.
I was just thinking that, are things not allowed to happen on september 11th anymore? I wonder how long this will continue.
Actually, it’s just that 12 September 2006 is a Tuesday, and Apple usually makes their non-Keynote announcements on Tuesdays.
Like new albums and DVDs are released on Tuesdays. Why, I do not know, but that’s the way it is.
It’s got to be something consumer-related, after all the complaining the talking tech-heads did after WWDC.
With the reports of Australian retailers slashing iPod prices, it looks like new iPods…but what form factor? Touchscreen makes them far less portable for many folks; how do you make adjustments like volume control or song advance? (Unless it includes a Bluetooth remote, which should also mean capability for wireless Bluetooth headphones which I would maim for…) Maybe larger capacity? I know several folks who have their current iPods at max capacity but have tons more stuff on their computer they’d like to bring along. And if iTMS is going to start carrying full-length movies, we’re going to need larger capacity iPods for those file sizes.
Glad they put it off till 9/12, so as not to get lost in all the 9/11 observances…
The UK version of the iPod rebate ends in like October so no, there is probably no significance to September 16.
well Sep 12 is a tuesday. Tuesday is the most frequently used day to release new albums in the U.S. so it must iPod related.
Well I’m glad the 12th is such a well chosen date, I would hate to lose a whole day of the year to terrorists, it seems to me there are only 365 of em, too few. I don’t think it’s good to dwell on the whole thing, there seem to be too many documentaries and tastless movies endlessly running over the same old ground.
Anyway hope Apple release something interesting.
