  1. To all who are ALREADY complaining about the cost to upgrade…

    * These are “leaked” screen shots. How can anyone make worthwhile comments about the value of Leopard based a couple of pictures?

    * Many planned features will not be in this early release to developers, precisely because Apple expects these “leaks.” And some types of improvements cannot be represented in screenshots, even if they are present.

    * Every “point-one” release of Mac OS X has been worth $129 (often available for $99), except for 10.1 (Puma). And that (10.1) was the release that Apple gave away for free to the brave early adopters who bought 10.0. I don’t think Leopard will be any different.

  2. Just a guess, but I’d bet that the thing they’re holding back is massive changes to the Finder, and the look of the overall OS. The developer version has some of the minor ones, but the big ones they’re saving for the final release. I have no evidence of this, just a hunch.

  3. After looking at all the QT movies of the Leopard sneak peek (http://www.apple.com/macosx), what I came away with was the undeniable sense of, “Wow! That is so cool and so easy!” These are useful, rewarding things that Joe Sixpack and Donna Domestic can have *fun* with!

Things like the stationery feature in Mail, the ability to restore deleted photos in Time Machine, the screen sharing with audio feature in iChat. Making your own Widgets in DashWorks. Even the Core animation stuff was cool.

Do you think any of our Windows brethren will be thinking, “Wow! This is so cool and so easy!” when they finally come face to face with Vista?

I hope Apple will be wise enough to launch Leopard *in direct competition with Vista* and do a head-to-head, tough-as-nails comparison of how easy it is to get useful things done. The users will come in droves. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />

MW “when” : When the time is right…

  4. Even with these small samples and with a demo, we still have no idea of what Leopard brings to the table, so there’s not really much point in speculating on specifics. Having said that, we experienced Tiger as being the big “features” release. It may be that Leopard will be more about what’s under the hood.

The only real requests from me are:
    1. that spaces can be used with at least the same functionality as Gnome or KDE multiple desktops (which are very useful and only covered by 3rd party apps in beta on Mac).
    2. that Apple try to lose the brushed metal look as soon as possible. Man, I hate it!
