Motley Fool writer: Apple will blow away analyst predictions today

JJMSpartan responds to a doozy of an Apple-themed post for The Motley Fool.

Here’s a brief taste of the post:

Is Apple really that innovative? Or are they just a marketing creation? Their primary product is the iPod, which is more expensive and for the most part not any better than many other devices. Their products currently have no features that other companies are not also able to put into their music players. What is driving their sales, then?

Okay, that’s concludes the comedy section of this article. JJMSpartan’s response, in part and highly-condensed, goes like this:

Where to begin… so much info that really is wrong… Apple Computer is still the name of the company. Yes, they derive a lot of current revenue from the iPod. But make no bones about it; Apple is still a computer company… Apple under Steve Jobs has been a great success… Apple computer makes hands-down the best mass-produced computer in the world… Apple’s strategy is to grow their computer business from their current 2.5% market share and it appears to be working already… The iPod / iTunes / iTunes Music Store combination is slick, simple and easy to use. Their products drove the market for making a better player, and they captured market share because they had the best player, hands down…

“I am predicting that they will blow away analyst predictions [with earnings results today]- not because of iPods, but because of computers,” JJMSpartan writes.

  1. I’m sorry, but you actually criticize them for not calling the company “Apple Computer”? A bit nit-picky, isn’t it? I mean, this site calls the company “Apple” all the time. Try focusing on real issues.

  2. JS,

JJMSpartan, not MacDailyNews, wrote the bit about the calling the company “Apple Computer.” He did so for a very specific reason* which should be very clear if you read MDN’s article above and/or read the full article on The Motley Fool.

    * To make the point that Apple isn’t just about iPods.

  3. MDN left out the best part of the comedy section.

“To this day, the new iPod models seem to have some problem or another because they are released probably 3-6 months in advance of when they should be released just to capitalize on the immediacy of the cool or hip factor.

Contrast that approach with Microsoft, who has no qualms about delaying software releases until they can assure their consumers that the functioning will be practicable and usable (not to say that there are no bugs, but at least a minimilization of major problems).”

BTW/RANT: I love the word “minimilization”. I think it’s minimization. Which is still an obnoxious -ization of a word, just say “they minimize major problems.” Will Apple succeed with the ipodization of the world?

  4. Motley Fool writer: Apple will blow away analyst predictions today

I read the artic le twice to make sure. No where in its entirety did JJMSpartan mention ANTYHING about earnings.

MDN’s use of exploitive headlines diminishes the quality of its blog.

  5. “AAPL will issue a earnings warnin.”
    “AAPL will have earnings surprise.”

    Blah, blah, blah.

    Blah.

Calling Nostradamus, Nostradamus come in please.

  6. Gregg Thurman,

About 2/3 of the way down, right before the bolded “FROSTY77.” And I quote, “With their conference call tomorrow, I am predicting that they will blow away analyst predictions – not because of iPods, but because of computers.”

I don’t like MDN’s takes, attitudes toward PC users and switchers, or their sensational and misleading headlines. But, this time, this one point – they were right.

MDN even quoted him, “‘I am predicting that they will blow away analyst predictions [with earnings results today]- not because of iPods, but because of computers,’ JJMSpartan writes.”
