CheckPoint VPN-1 Secure client was broken in 10.3.9. (You could use a command line patch to get it to work with 10.3.9)
In 10.4.x, Secure Client R56 would not install at all and it took until just about 3 weeks ago for CheckPoint to finally release a “early access read “beta” version” that would install on 10.4.x. The early availability R56 build 006 works fine on PowerPC based Macs but would still not install in intel Macs.
Hopefully, CheckPoint will actually post a Universal Binary version…. but it is not there on the web site yet…. or perhaps it is hiding.
With any luck at all, (and perhaps a lot of pressure) CheckPoint will actually release a version for Leopard on a timely basis…
That is to say… faster than the 17 months it took to get compatible with Tiger. I am sick of having to keep a machine back on an old version of system.
If I could avoid using this software to connect to my office system, I would.
Why not just use Internet Connect to configure your VPN? It works great for me.

Because Checkpoint VPN-1 is normally used in tandem with other enterprise authentication software such as ACE/Server from RSA, and includes features such as automatic policy updating which restricts what the client computer can access whilst the VPN is active. Checkpoint have been extremely poor with their Mac support when you consider how Cisco had their similar VPN client working with Tiger well over a year ago.
I do use Internet Connect to establish VPN connections with many of my customers and it does work very well along with Apple Remote Desktop 3 it is a super tool for support.
For the corporate network which I have to deal with on a daily basis, we are using Firewall appliances that implement the CheckPoint proprietary software and one simply can not use and off-the-shelf open system.
(Given the urine poor level of support CheckPoint has had for Mac OS, they would never have been my choice. I would implement the VPN services from Mac OS X Server to authenticate and tunnel into the networks and I have done this for some of my clients.)
My level of satisfaction and happiness working with Windows XP is growing… at an exponentially inverse ratio to my increased experiance.
There is NO reference to any Alpha, Beta or GA Checkpoint client for Mac OS that is compatible with anything other then Panther 10.3.x.
Can someone link to the references used to acquire this information? As nothing on Checkpoints site for the Mac has been updated in over a year.

The checkpoint site is horrendous considering their target audience.
Each visit leaves me exasperated and utterly disgusted. I have spent 30 minutes chasing the wild goose that is SecureRemote R56 for OS X 10.4.

I found it, but when installed on a Macbook Pro it locked up the port so that it couldn’t be pinged locally even when the VPN was turned off (it wouldn’t connect to the VPN either).
