RUMOR: No new MacBook iBook replacements until next week at earliest

“Apple Computer’s highly anticipated line of Intel-based MacBook consumer notebooks may not turn up [today] as several online reports and analysts have suggested,” AppleInsider reports. “Although Apple reportedly began manufacturing the notebooks over a week ago, sources say the Mac maker is unlikely to unveil the computers until the following week at the earliest.”

“The 13-inch widescreen notebooks will reportedly arrive in tandem with changes to the company’s iPod line. However, precisely which versions of Apple’s iPod will see such changes is unclear at this time,” AppleInsider reports.

RUMOR: Thinner iBook replacement ‘MacBook’ to debut tomorrow in choice of black or white – May 08, 2006

  1. I can wait. I’d love to replace my 12″ G4 with a 13″ Core Duo today, but that isn’t in my budget any time soon and to actually be able to play with the object of my desire would be just another, more painful, tease.

Do you really doubt that the Mac OS will be thrown UNDER the bus in the not too distant future?<i>
Yes, I doubt it. Tiger is a cleaner, faster and more secure OS than Vista is expected to be – and is arguably comparably feature-rich. Leopard, originally expected to debut months after Vista (a year after <i>Longhorn
), is on track to be shipped late in its original window, months ahead of Vista. This wouldn’t be of any great significance were it not a significantly richer environment than either Tiger or Vista. The next major upgrade has been penciled in for mid/late-2008. That’s about the earliest you could expect to see Apple caving in and dropping OS X for Windows.

Is mid to late 2008 your “not too distant future”?

  2. “This is no problem at all, because we’re all very patient and understanding, right guys?”

Argh, I’ve been trying to stay patient for over four months by now! First we were supposed to get them at the Macworld Expo, then at the special event which introduced a leather bag for iPods(!) and now when the launch really seemed to happen, we end up empty-handed again…

Dammit, I want my i/MacBook Steve!

  4. I was switching a Windows guy to an iMac at the Apple Store, Trafford Park, today and the young sales assistant said that Apple had called a “meeting” for Wednesday in NY (I think). He fully expected the announcement of the new iBook (MacBook), but of course he didn’t know.

So! maybe we will see something this week after all.

  5. So what, just AAPL trying to screw the customer. What’s new?

We should have learnt since the MBP.

    Heat and Whine.

The only reason AAPL does not anounce things is that they can’t get their shyt together.

    Oh well….

  6. When is the new Apple Store in Manhattan opening, with Steve cutting the ribbon? Maybe he wants a little extra buzz to bring to his latest cube? That’s when we’ll see the black & whites. Betcha a nickel!

  7. Tempted to look at the 13″ iBook replacement as my new workhorse machine…would be perfect size for taking to the library and using for writing. Could I actually get away with three computers for only 2 people??? (Well, it would be small enough to sneak in without the spouse seeing it at least… ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”tongue wink” style=”border:0;” /> )
