  1. Honestly, do you think Windows Mobile 5, Palm, or Symbian would stand a chance after something like this from Apple? There is no chance in hell Apple wouldn’t dominate the phone market with 12 months after that was released. Build in WiFi, Skype, and allow it integrate seamlessly with my Mac (only when booted in OS X of course) and Apple had better double personnel at the online and brick Apple Stores across the country. Of course, adding the “floating” feature would be an added premium.

May be this is the real reason behind the new data centers in the US and tech support center in India. They must know something we don’t….

  2. nah…. too complicated, all those flapping bits….

its the sort of superficially stylish stuff B&O come out with which is usually more gimmick than substance.

i would think something like the older nokias would be better when the keypad slides out, you could have an ipod with this, other wise totally touch screen and no moving parts might be the holy grail.

  3. Keep in mind folks, it’s one thing to come up with a great conceptual idea, it’s another to actually build it. Nasty realities start to seep in when you try to turn a beautiful idea into a physical object.

Here’s one such reality. Folded up, the scroll wheel and the camera lens would touch the screen. Over time spent in the owner’s pockets, the screen would accumulate little scratches underneath these areas.

Also, how do you dial this thing? Touch the screen, apparently. Then you get to watch video through your fingerprints.

Finally, the video implied two modes for this device: folded up and folded “back”. The latter mode puts the scroll wheel on the back where there’s no visual feedback to whatever you’re doing with it. How the heck would you operate something like that?

So to sum up, yeah, gorgeous and sexy as hell, but not at all practical.
