Apple debuts flyer, retail staff t-shirts with slogan ‘We can help you do it all’

“Perhaps in concert with this week’s TV commercial campaign, the retail stores will debut a 12-page fold-out brochure that highlights the international reach of the stores, the helpful personnel, and the variety of creative applications that Apple offers. The brochure will be accompanied by new, dark-green employee T-shirts imprinted with a new set of slogans,” ifoAppleStore reports. “The cover of the brochure lists the types of capabilities that Mac software allows, including blog, compose, jam, share, photocast and ‘Switch.’ The cover text also notes, ‘We can help you do it all.’”

  1. Someperson asks “Is that an Apple Brochure or a fashion magazine?”

Actually, all the people in the brochure are real Apple employees. Their name/position and store are printed above their picture..

So, to answer your question, yes, it is an Apple brochure, not a fashion magazine.

  2. “We can help you do it all” sounds nothing like “Start Something.”

It appears that Apple’s campaign will focus on educating consumers that Apple stores sell more than iPods.. It is necessary for Apple to raise awareness in this way, as many people call the “Apple store” the “iPod store.”

  3. “It looks like Apple and Co. have been listening to MDN… took their advice of actually advertising WHY the software is better, not just telling people that, they are mentally damaged, and their Windows boxes are merely that… A metal box with some stuff in it and personal touches. It’s about time! Now… Let’s see some ads all over the place showing Mac OS X at its best!”

I really doubt it was MDN’s influence that caused this.

“I hate to say this, because I’m no Windows fanboi, but Apple really needs to support those who come into their stores and wants to be able to install and run Windows on their Intel Macs. They need to be trained in how to install it, show people how dual booting works, and let people see Windows running on iMacs and Macbook Pros and Mac Minis first hand.

Even if Apple does not wish to sell, or support Windows, they could still sell hardware to those who wish to use Windows, and just want to see how well it works first hand. This is part of them being able to completely take care of customers. They are currently falling short in this area.”

Umm, new Macs will be able to run Windows. There is your Windows hardware support – along with a ton of cross-platform capable accessories. But Apple will support IT’s software… want Windows support, call Microsoft.

“Apple needs a separate Genius Bar for ipod-related problems. Every time I go into the Apple Store someone is always fixing an ipod at the Genius Bar. Don’t penalize Mac users because people don’t know how to reset their ipods.

Add an ipod Bar where you can get help, view videos and purchase music direct to your ipod.”

Before you think you inc=vented this, Apple already has iPod Bars in the works.

  4. It’s still unclear if Apple mentions its Consultants Network at all in this campaign. While the stores have been very successful, one of the reasons that they have remained so is the relationship between Apple and the ACN.

The brochure calls the Geniuses, “the most knowledgeable Mac and iPod people in the world,”

This is, in my experience, simply hype. There are many good Apple Store Geniuses out there, and some of them would do well as consultants. Most of them, however, compare to ACN members as first-level telephone support compares to engineering staff — great for 70% of what comes in, but utterly lost when you get into complicated needs.

  5. R said: “The campaign hasn’t even launched and people are all over it. Sheesh.”

Now you know what Monday morning QB’s® do in the off season.

    Get an iLife people!

  6. What is “it”? How do I know if I’m doing “it” and, if I am doing “it”, how do I know I’m doing it “all”? “It” means nothing in particular or anything at all, depending on your definition, perspective, or need.

Steve Jobs castigated Microsoft for making Steve Ballmer its quintessential sage of corporate zeitgeist and savant of technological development. Now we have Apple imitating the moronic babbling of a third rate salesperson or the nervous mantra of desperate PR flunky. Man, this is embarrassing.

  7. Advertise the stores! Now there’s a genius idea! I disagree with those who think Mac OS X could be successfully advertised in 30 seconds, but the store can! My only worry is that the stores might not be prepared to handle the success. Most of the outlets aren’t very large.

  8. “Can you help us with Boot Camp?

No more stonewalling in the stores, Apple. You need to recognize Boot Camp as part of your own OS, esp. when 10.5 ships.”

Ok, WHEN Boot Camp is part of the OS, Maybe they’ll help with it. There is a bunch of help on the WEB SITE! Apple isnt going to support Windows even when TenFive is here, Just what it runs ON.

“Start Something” is nothing like “We can help you do it” . At least on the Mac, you actually CAN Start Something. Right Away. No Problems, slowdowns, or bullshit to get in your way.

  9. Since many of you who read my post managed to completely miss the point I made…

I repeat what I said, Apple in its stores needs to demonstrate Windows running on their hardware, along with how to install it through Boot Camp. If Boot Camp is beta and will never be fully supported until 10.5, fine, say that. At least show people how well it works NOW. When Leopard comes out, show them how it works THEN.

This is not about how to run Windows, this is not about supporting Windows, this is about showing people that Windows does work on Macs, and showing them how well it works. So this is about Mac hardware and sales of Mac hardware. I never said anything about having a virus cleaning or spyware removal service.

People can get technical help on how to run Windows elsewhere, but it’s Apple’s responsibility to demonstrate to people that may want to puchase Apple computers how well Windows functions on thier machines first hand, along with how easy it is to install using Boot Camp.

And before any of you say how the website describes all this, the website does NOT give people a first hand demonstration how fast or slow Windows runs on hardware.

  10. “It” apparently means “Blog, Compose, Podcast, Jam, Share, Photocast, Chat.” I like Apple’s emphasis on verbs; however, it is advisable to abstain from techno-speak and ambiguous generalizations when attempting to reach the broadest spectrum of consumers. Sure, the self-described “computer-savvy geek” knows what these words connote, but many PC users and potential switchers have no exact idea what this jargon means. The greatest number of potential customers are probably uninformed, uncertain, or completely unaffected how this lingo represents useful, practical, and valuable life activities.

Apple’s advertising campaign must show how all potential users can take advantage of OS X to make their lives or jobs more fun, productive, or stimulating. If you give a person the idea that OS X can make their lives more fruitful, dynamic, and creative they will be primed to “Blog, Compose, Podcast, Jam, Share, Photocast, Chat”. If computers are to be the centerpiece appliance of entertainment, communication, self-expression, and self-development they must be naturally recognizable and intuitively simple to use.

  11. >Apple needs a separate Genius Bar for ipod-related problems. Every time I go into the Apple Store someone is always fixing an ipod at the Genius Bar. Don’t penalize Mac users because people don’t know how to reset their ipods.

Add an ipod Bar where you can get help, view videos and purchase music direct to your ipod.>

Best idea yet! The iPod maroons overwhelm the genius bar in Fashion Valley, San Diego. Most of them are blonde too.

MW-second- as in Isecond that comment.

    How do it know?

  12. Just look at you guys!!

A few months ago the very concept of Windows running on a Mac would get responses of “troll!!” and “asshat”

But now it’s “Apple Stores need to demo XP running on Mac’s”

Like crappy looking XP is really going to show off what makes a Mac a Mac, Mac OS X.

And now some are suggesting Apple support that crappy operating system with all it’s problems?

Sure for a substancial cost. Maybe that’s the plan, allowing them to run windows and when it craps out all the time people can bring it in and switch to Mac OS X.

  13. Al Jazzoo,

But now it’s “Apple Stores need to demo XP running on Mac’s”

Apple needs to recognize XP because it now officially runs on their own hardware.

Now, I agree there shouldn’t be prominent displays of Macs running XP. But Apple reps should at least acknowledge Boot Camp when customers ask.

And now some are suggesting Apple support that crappy operating system with all it’s problems?

Nobody said Apple had to support Windows itself. All Apple has to do is show people how to make Boot Camp work, and make it clear that beyond Boot Camp customers are on their own.

I don’t remember this big of deal with Apple’s DOS Compatibility Card way back when…
