Parents warned to check kids’ iPods for porn

“Parents and police are concerned about new video technology that allows for the easy downloading of adult-only material onto portable devices. The new video iPod from Apple, as well as many models of cellphones, allow for the downloading of video to the devices, such as legitimate programming such as music videos. But users can also download graphic adult movie clips to the devices, meaning children could potentially watch whatever they want, whenever they want — away from adult supervision,” CTV reports. “Det. Ian Lamond of the Toronto Police Services Child Exploitation Unit told CTV News he believes some schools may eventually ban photo cellphones and iPods from school property… Police say the family computer should be kept in an area where everyone can see it, so you can watch what your children are downloading.”

  1. Do ya think that since all that stuff has to go on the family hard drive first, that checking the iPod is almost a waste of time?

Do ya think that maybe it isn’t better for a teenager to look at porn than knock up the neighbor?

How about we educate our kids about sex instead of having them live in a vacuum sans information spreading disease and having unwanted babies? Yeah, yeah abstinence folks, abstinence should be topic #1 of a well-rounded sex education program, but it should not be the ONLY topic, because in the abstinence or else world the alternative is ignorance and we all know that doesn’t work.

  2. The problem with society is not with the children. It is the adults who are molesting children, it is the sick and twisted individuals that we have seen last year that kidnap women and little 8 yr old girls in Florida. It is not little johnny and his iPod. Advocate groups need to leave children and their computers and iPods alone, and focus on the adults who are looking for kids on the internet, or in our neighborhoods.

  3. Here’s a tip for parents:

Check the COMPUTER, not the iPod. You can’t have porn on the iPod without it being on the computer first. But you CAN have porn on the computer with no need for any other gizmos at all.

And here’s a tip for kids:

Print your porn. Printouts fold smaller than iPods, and lets look at “whatever they want, whenever they want — away from adult supervision.”

Someone PLEASE tell me what’s so terrifying about iPods, when computers and printers have been around for ages. Or do people just need to be distracted from REAL issues, lest they actually work to change something important?

    MW = girls. No comment.

  4. Note to parents..

Search computer for new files once a week. Check to see if files are porn. Spotlight makes task easy. Hmm, that’s tough. Of course this means they might actually have to be a parent.

  5. iTunes and Mac have reasonable parental controls built in that pretty much prevent this until they are 15/16, tech-savvier than you and have minds that can decide on their own anyway.

  6. Porn is like piracy. You can try, try, try to stop it from happening, but it’s gonna happen anyway, sooner or later.

Although parents should have a better tab on their children. I know, it’s hard to be the parent in this situation, but not being the parent will just amke things worse….. and in relation to Tommy Boy’s comment- first it’s iPorn, then its knocking up the neighbors…..You can try to prevent it, but you can never stop it completely…..without traveling outside the laws of human rights and that just isnt nice.

  7. What about using parental controls? (in Mac OSX Tiger) If you block the porn websites, then you don’t need to worry about your children accessing it to download onto iPods.

  8. Maybe Apple could come up with a parental function in the iPod to easily consolidate all porn related files. This would be an ingenious move; parents could go through all the “infected” material when their divine untouched 17yrs are sleeping, review it and finally delete it -after they saved it elsewhere. Next day they could continue to be like “ooOOooh, how could she!” when they spot a nipple on the helluvision.

  9. wow! kids today are lights years ahead of me during my youth. i only got to look at playboy & sun nudist magazines “hidden” in my dads closet.

now kids can look at all that porn “hidden” on their
parents computer & the dvd’s behind the bookcase.

  10. Kathy is worried about porn instead of the real thing. When those teenage (girls included) hormones start pumping, its all over.

And the teenage boys, according to one study, think about sex every 60 seconds.

Porn never took anyone’s virginity or got them pregnant
