Apple iTunes for Windows Mobile 5 spotted?

“I managed to get my hands on Apple iTunes for Windows Mobile 5.0. After the Motorola ROKR Apple seems to get seriously into the mobile phone business. As my sources tell there will be a special data rate for T-Mobile bundled with devices that come with iTunes,” Daniel Kirstenpfad writes in his blog. “The version I could test was iTunes for Windows Mobile 5.0 version 0.9. Although it looks pretty complete (everything (except bonjour) is in place and even podcast sync worked like a champ… it’s not a customer ready version. I don’t know anything about the release dates or announcement dates at the moment.”

“Some words to the graphical user interface: Apple decided to use the well known iTunes in favor of the iPod user interface. Since the buttons and functionalities are all where I expected them it’s as easy to use as the ‘big’ version of iTunes,” Kirstenpfad writes. “I did not have the time for an in-depth test yet but it seems that it is not limited in the way the Motorola ROKR is. Nevertheless I was not able to sync it with a PC/Mac iTunes yet since there are no drivers (and I haven’t got any) I successfully copied 1 GB of MP3/AAC files onto a SD Card and I could play it all. When I inserted the SD Card iTunes automatically searched for media files and rebuilt it’s library. After some seconds I could start listening… I so far was not able to actually buy anything in the apple store – iTunes just crashed when I tried. So there’s obviously more work to do for Apple.”

  1. In related news, a first generation GameBoy was spotted running a specially compiled version of iMovie. What’s special about this is that the software actually simulated the look of color on the tiny B&W LCD by altering the speed of light. Nintendo officials declined to comment except to say that this is “something they do in their spare time”. Sony and Microsoft are rumored to hack the prototype unit to make Final Cut Pro HD run on their earlier consoles to reduce inventory.

MW: could. If they could, they would.

  2. I have a special developer edition of iTunes running on the Sharp microwave oven in my motorhome. The interface is a bit quirky due to the single-line LED visual interface but this problem should be resolved by the time the software reaches beta. The U.I. translated quite nicely to the timer selection button panel of the oven. The frequency response is much better with the oven door open but an operational problem still exists – when the motorhome is lumbering down the highway at 70MPH the oven door swings around (and sometimes slams shut). I’ve forwarded these bugs to the Apple Developer Connection and hope to have workarounds to these minor problems. We’re working on versions of this software for use on home microwave ovens and hope to have that available soon.

Oh, and by the way, that Windoze Mobile iTunes is a fake (and not a very convincing one). What a waste of Photoshop.

  3. Apple has made a pretty clear graphical direction for mobile devices. The phone and iPod software are similar looking. This looks clunky. There’s no source menu. If you want anything other than name and time, you have some serious horizontal scrolling. There is no way Apple would develop such a large, obtrusive interface for such a tiny screen.

  4. Fake: They didn’t use the iPod interface, but the iTunes interface. That’s nice, but what about playlists? How can I navigate through my music? At least you should have a combination of the two interfaces.

MW: answer. What is the proble for this answer?
