  1. WTF?

This was not a good idea. And had a little too much money behind it.

For God’s sake, there are people dealing with the aftermath of a hurricane and people are pissing away money on this crap? Where’s the humanity?

  2. nycguy, that’s exactly what I was thinking. The problem is that not even dorks can identify with “Mitch” from the videos so I guess it appeals to no one.

Dell needs to consider this, they are a bargain basement company. They appeal to the tight budget.

Some consider Apple a boutique company; but they definitely appeal to people who are willing to spend a little more for quality and experience.

There is NO WAY Dell can compete for the iPod crowd with shiat like that.

  3. One of the segments says you can sync like a semi-professional. SEMI! They’re basically saying professionals wouldn’t dream of using their crap.

The shuffle is a limited product – Apple admit that and have never sold it as anything more, in fact they’ve purposely marketed it as such. This ditty thing is just appalling.

What amazes me is the total lack of any sort of taste in these designs. The ditty would be infinitely better if they made it all one colour – silver. At the moment there is the silver body, the blue screen and then the coloured cap thing-a-mies it’s just a mess. They just don’t get it.

Looking at that site pains me.

  4. The only thing I can think is that Dell has conceded that they will not be able to beat ‘cool’, so they are positioning it as the ‘uncool’ alternative.

The best way to establish yourself in a market is to act like you are competing with the players.

But they really put themselves out there on this one.

  5. I guess they really don’t get it? What a bunch of morons.
Is this Dell thing a joke?

If you can’t compete with apple, make something that’s 180 degrees
different. I still can’t believe they actually did something this lame.
    Is it April 1st already?

  6. ditty ditty BANG BANG…..I should check my digital tire quage to see if it plays crappy wma’s (thnks RePlay)

I applaud the marketing team at Dell, keep it up losers, I bet they did the layout and design of that abortion on winblows!

  7. This is sad. Cole & Weber is actually a good advertising agency, but I don’t know how they can defend this work. Watching it, people will feel like they can’t take Dell seriously, and that affects how seriously they will take the Ditty. Big, fat zero.

  8. “….Holy crap! Easily the most annoying thing I’ve ever seen…..”

Ya know…. maybe that is the point !!

Years ago…. probably the most annoying commercial around was… Mr Whipple and ..”Please dont squeeze the Charmin”…

Yeah… it was annoying… but it sold a lot of toilet paper !!

  9. Think about it guys (writing this as I listen to Shirley Horn on my 4GB Nano)..the competition is *still* thinking on ways to match the iPod (any model) let alone surpass it. Meanwhile Apple has probably partially shelved the huge binder labelled iPod-The Beginning and working on the next use for their runaway hit. This from a company which was supposedly beleaguered and dying? Apple may and does have it’s faults but it’s dedication to deiivering graceful and imaginitive products remains pristine.

  10. This is funny. I guess their going after the fat, poser tech guy who want’s to be cool but really never was or will be. talk about trend setting and hitting the ever popular tastemaker markets. ROFLOL.

  11. Wow. That was quite possibly the worst thing I’ve ever seen, and I used to be a local TV producer (which means I had to take part in many, many bad commercials. Many.)

I’m sure those commercials will pay for themselves in no time. Ha ha ha ha ha!

  12. Damn…just watched some of the clips…it’s Jason Priestly in 20 years!!!!
Ironically, one of the songs used says,”Never gonna get it, never gonna get it…” ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”LOL” style=”border:0;” />

  13. I think you guys are missing the point. They can NOT compete with the ipod for the cool factor — so they take the piss, make a joke about it, go ironic. I think it is really clever and probably the only way out. The product looks like shit, but they know there is a large group of non ipod lovers… It’s a clever move out of desperation

  14. OMG what a train-wreck … I guess you have to grant them point for having the courage to follow such a horrible concept to it’s logical end. Everything about the video’s is repulsive, especially the fat turd who is trying to be “ironic” but really just comes across as an annoying …. fat turd.

I do supposed Dell is tyring to be “anti-apple” but could they make an unappealing product any more unappealing if they tried?

And whats up with the 64kbps 220 song storage claim? Do they think their customers are all as stupid and deluded as the fat dance instructor they’re trying to parody?

“The Dell Ditty. Why get an iPod when You Can be a Total Retard?”
