“President Bush’s radio addresses [are now] offered via podcast… Here’s what White House spokesman David Almacy told me: Selected Bush speeches, along with the radio addresses, are available now at the iTunes Web site. A team of about a dozen Web staffers are converting these and selected speeches into MP3 files and making them available too,” Robert MacMillan reports for The Washington Post.
“Not only that, the White House has created RSS feeds for the radio addresses in English and Spanish. That means that anyone who wants to can sign up to receive the information through their RSS readers along with news and other Web site updates that offer this service,” MacMillan reports. “‘As technology advances, the White House recognizes the importance of providing content in new ways to reach new audiences to communicate the president’s vision,’ Almacy said. Regardless of the current brouhaha over what that vision is, it might be possible to classify the Bush White House as jumping ahead of the curve on technology.”

Nay, not interested in politics
“Johnny”!
For the most unscientific AND idiotic statement on this entire thread, and there have been a LOT of those!!
Money quote:
“The evidence just isnt there. AND it never will be.”
Asserting that the evidence for a new theory “will never be” is a profoundly fundamentalist/religious/dogmatic statement, even if of a secular kind. Perhaps the most basic principle of science is that explanatory theories will evolve or be replaced based on new empirical evidence–and we should never close our minds off to the possibility of such an occurrence. An assertion that new evidence will “never” exist is untestable (not to mention absurd) and, therefore, not scientific. God, save science from its supporters!!
Johnny must have failed elementary science class.
Kate
Hey there.
I just wanted to let you know that I have read only a small smackeral of this page.
You guys really truly need to get a life.
Overpopulation? For crying out loud. Have you BEEN to Montana? Alaska? Mid Alabama?
Texas has 7.3 trillion square feet of land. Alaska has twice that.
And to quote ‘Ghandi’ – “The reality is that, throughout history, more wars have been fought and more people have been killed due to religion than anything else.”
Really?
So WW1 and WW2 were about religion? And Iraq? And Vietnam? And Korea? You’ll find that in order to convince yourself of this ‘reality’ you have to twist history to fit your warped view.
Go to the top of the page and you’ll see an article on the President’s podcasts.
johnny: do you realize how completely insane you sound?
For science worshippers who are too biased to think for themselves, an open mind to truth beyond scientific deduction does sound insane. But unfortunately it is those who think that faith is insane who are truly insane and completely spiritually bankrupt. But on the other hand there is no particular virtue in faith itself, short of faith in what is true.
All of your posts, and those of your buddies, prove you and they (variously) (1) don’t understand your own theory of evolution; (2) don’t understand the beliefs of most creationists; (3) don’t understand the difference between creationism and intelligent design; (4) don’t understand the diversity of Christian thought on subjects such as hell, or Christian history on topics such as the “flat earth” etc.; (5) pretty much don’t know nuthin’ except that you hate certain people. Hopefully you are doing well in school, but I have a bad feeling about that too.
thanks for caring distant thunder.
i have a great job and life. I knew getting sucked into this would be pointless, but i did anyway.
and i only hate the ignorant. and buddy – you are ingorant.
and boy, sleeping in on sunday is great.
kate,
are you a total moron?
unless god himself appears, the EVIDENCE will NEVER be there.
is that more clear for you??
i made it very clear my distinctions between science and religion. now shit your mouth and go back to the kitchen where you belong.
Get your hand out of your pants and listen up:
Would you also say that unless a black hole suddenly became visible (“appeared”), the “EVIDENCE” would “NEVER” be there? Do you disbelieve Einstein’s theory of relativity because recent evidence for it rests entirely on its INDIRECT impact on OTHER phenomena in space. There are MANY things in science we can’t perceive directly, but we infer their existence from other phenomena.
That’s enough, now back to kindergarten science for you!
Love & kisses,
Kate
I’m sure Jesus would approve of your hyperbole, kate. Great job there.
ID is not science. It’s an idea, a rather abstract one; it cannot be proved, but that _doesn’t mean it’s illegitmate_, you are right in that.
However, regardless of what you or Shrub think it is, “Intelligent Design” _is_ being used as an excuse by rabid conservatives to place Creationism in science class.
ID is a fine idea. Let it be taught along with Buddhism and the Talmud in Religion or Philosophy class. Or do you really want this country to fall further behind Asia than it already is?
Further, let’s get back to the point, which is that Bush lied and over 1800 Americans are dead as a result. Total and fundamental abuse of power. Why can’t you see these things, kate? Why must it always be a single issue? Can’t we agree that corrupt politicans are bad? Why can’t you see that Bush and all of his lackeys are corrupt?
The entire world sees this, except for a few million Fox “falafalicious” O’Reily viewers and Rush “Nope, Didn’t Go To War ‘Cause I Had Hemmorroids” Limbaugh listeners. Why aren’t you more observant, for Chrissake?
There are many highly religious non-Republicans. Christ was one of them. Or do you think he’d approve of Bush’s motto: “might makes right”? Repent, kate baby. It’s probably too late, because Shrub has already sold us to the Chinese, but it might make you feel a little better, huh?
In any case, enjoy your $5.00/gallon gas next summer, courtesy Bushiburton Oil.
And hey, remember this:
“I’m a uniter, not a divider.”
If you think there’s been a more divisive president in the 200+ year history of the USA, please name him. Clinton may have been more well-liked than Reagan, but even Reagan didn’t polarize people like Dubya. Nixon? Johnson? Everybody hated them at one time or another. Certainly no president in history has lost two straight elections (by popular vote) until W.

kate kate kate….
we’re not talking about science here. I.D. is NOT science. It’s creationisn you hole. We’re talking about fairytales.
And if you’re gonna be all condescending and insulting, try and be a little more creative. You sound like a dumpy housewife with those lines.
@ Kate:
Nice try, but no cigar!
The problem with your assertion re: Einstein’s Theory of Relativity is that not only can certain aspects – such as black holes – be observed by their indirect impact on other factors (such as the whole gravitational lens thing), but that other less complex observations of other objects – even putting an atomic clock in a plane – have effectively shown that Einstein was pretty much on the money.
@ Prophet:
No, I don’t “think” that there have been multiple translations, I know that there have been multiple translations – it’s a matter of archaeological and historical record. But even if that were not the case, you should actually read what I wrote which is that the translations not only gave rise to a change in language, but – almost inevitably – to either accidental or willful misinterpretation.
As a Jew, I’m only too conscious of the view that the Jews were responsible for the death of Jesus and the persecution that we have suffered since: my personal view is that you cannot trust the Bible’s interpretation for what was state-sponsored murder, given that the Roman Empire – the people who knocked the nails in – ultimately became the Holy Roman Empire. Do you really think that Rome would have published a document that said “Actually, we were responsible for murdering the Messiah – but you can trust us now because we’ve seen the light”. Or do you think that they engineered the text to some degree to push blame onto another group whose influence they were looking to undermine whilst simultaneously maintaining Rome’s role as the centre of the “civilised” (sic) world.
Faith is a great thing and a comfort to us in times of trouble, but you need to be consistent. If you believe in the Word of God as you claim, you still need to answer the question about whether you abide by all the Commandments or just the nice easy headlines: the moment you eat a spare rib or a crabcake, you’re done for or if you wear garments made from a cotton/wool mix, or if you have a pair of pigskin gloves.
It’s not a menu: if you want to say that the Bible is literally true, then you’re bound by the whole thing – not just the convenient bits. How about “vengeance is mine, I will repay” – which seems to specifically counsel against acts of retaliation – how does that fit with state-sponsored execution or torture.
As for one of your other posts: clotting is a chemical reaction – pure and simple. digestion – likewise, touch is an electromechanical system that has been optimised by millions of years of evolution.
If clotting was a “perfect” Intelligent Design or the work of an infallible superior being or force, explain haemophilia where a random genetic defect results in some people not being able to “clot” properly. And if cell replication is an Intelligent Design, explain cancer where the process goes horrendously wrong.
I don’t even understand your point regarding pollination – plants have evolved literally hundreds of different strategies for reproduction, and certain animals and insects have developed optimised characteristics for exploiting those strategies. It’s a synergy where pollination was possible prior to the specialisation as was the collection of plant-based food for the pollinator, but – over millions of years – evolutionary development allowed some insects and animals to become more successful than others.
Science–
I have an open mind and love to learn new things. It’s a passion. I can’t just accept what you say at face value, I have to test it. So I’ll need some proof that the fragments current translators are using are not in the original languages.
As for keeping the law…
I can’t do it. If I can just get the 10 commandments down, then I’ll move on to the other things. I can’t seem to go just one day without breaking these “nice easy headlines” or the “convenient bits” as you call them. I hate my weakness and try to overcome it. But it’s hard.
I lie (to protect myself, to save my pride, to intentionally deceive)
I steal (time from my employer, like right now)
I commit adultery (Jesus said to lust is committing adultery in your heart.)
I murder (Jesus said being angry with someone, or hating, is the same as murder.)
And that’s just four of the ten commandments. I am woefully inadequate as a “saint”.
Jesus is the atonement lamb. He shed his blood to cover my sins. I have been given his righteousness because he did keep ALL of the law. Even the little bits. He did it for me.
Having faith in Jesus is trusting in his cleansing blood like you would trust in a parachute. On the day of judgement, when He makes everything right, he will push everyone out of the plane. Those who have trusted in his blood will have their parachutes on and ready. Those who did not will be splattered on the ground.
I’m just the messenger. It’s up to you to make a decision. I really do care about all you guys and I don’t want you to be in hell. I’m trying to show you that what you believe is not necessarily true.
If our eyes meet on judgement day, you may want to beat me for not making you understand, but I’ve done all I can. Your blood is on your own head. It breaks my heart but all I can do is give you the message and hope you’ll put away your pride, resentment, and consider it.
– Peace
Science –
“If clotting was a “perfect” Intelligent Design or the work of an infallible superior being or force, explain haemophilia where a random genetic defect results in some people not being able to “clot” properly. And if cell replication is an Intelligent Design, explain cancer where the process goes horrendously wrong.”
Since when does intelligent design require perfection. Would not most agree that a Porche is intelligently designed, but don’t some malfunction on occasion?
“my personal view is that you cannot trust the Bible’s interpretation for what was state-sponsored murder”
If you take the time to read the scripture, you will see that the Bible does not dissagree with you here. Just because some who have called themselves Christian have held that view does not mean that the Bible espouses it. It is clear in the text that certain individuals in Jerusalem desired it and that the Roman government carried it out. No where does it suggest retribution on a group of people. The Bible does not call for revenge for the murder of Jesus. Jesus triumphed over that murder by raising himself from the dead. It is because he did so that we as Christians have victory over our own sins.
So you demand proof that the version of the Bible on which you rely is not based on a Latin translation from a Greek translation of Aramaic scripture.
But you won’t accept the proof of the evolution of the Universe and the living creatures on this planet despite the existence of “real” science, because it won’t easily conform to your view that their must be a guiding creator.
You demand that I prove evolution by proving that your belief is invalid: I can’t prove it because there is simply no scientific evidence to either support or disprove your position, because your position is philosophical or spiritual as opposed to scientific.
Let me turn it around on you: prove to me that ID is a fact, incontrovertibly and with supporting physical evidence that cannot be subject to interpretation. If you can’t, what you’re telling me is simply a fairy story.
Logically, doesn’t it make sense that Jesus was just a man in a time begging for a messiah. I mean, even today we have from time to time people saying that they are messengers directly linked to God, except today those people are considered freaks and are put down. But take away all the technology, and someone like that could clearly gain more power and believability. And then because the stories spread and a book is written and times goes by, it becomes fact in many peoples minds and before you know it, millions of people arre following a false prophet. Of course it is the fact that so many people are following it that it has so much strength. How can so many people be wrong? Think about it. Logically, that makes a lot of sense.
Science–
You make it sound like evolution has been proven.
I don’t accept ID. It’s wrong. I believe God created all life in one week, as far as I can tell, about 6000 years ago. ID doesn’t permit that belief.
There is a lot of data that can be interpreted to dispove my belief. But after studying the data and the conclusions, I have yet to find enough data that cannot be interpreted in a different way which will support my view, to cause me to change my mind.
If you can show me evolution “is a fact, incontrovertibly and with supporting physical evidence that cannot be subject to interpretation” then I will renounce Jesus because the Bible would be a fairy tale.
What you say does make a lot of sense. And there were a lot of folk claiming to be the messiah during Jesus’ time. After they were taken out of the picture, though, their followers just dried up and disappeared.
What is different about Jesus is that after he died, his followers really believed they had seen him alive and were willing to die for him. They were beaten, threatened, their friends were killed, and they just kept on teaching about him. And people kept believing them. So it continues to this day.
Either they were all wacked, which doesn’t seem likely to me, or they really had seen Jesus and really did believe he was the messiah.
There is a promise in the Bible which is easy to test out. If He doesn’t keep His promise, then you’ll know it’s all a bunch of rubbish. I tested Him on it, and I believe. John 14:21.
G Spank–
Sorry, I put your name in the wrong spot. I’m a dork. I’m gonna go to Hell.
Since my previous message was even more confusing than the last…
I posted in G Spank’s name on accident. I meant to “reply to” G Spank and made it appear the message was “from” G Spank.
The message ‘from’ G Spank starting with “What you say does make a lot of sense” is actually from me, Prophet.
My apologies to all, especially G Spank.
no problemo, Prophet. I appreciate your response. In forums like this, I am used to people posting angry responses, and it is refreshing to get a nice reply.
I see your point, and it may be valid. I do not rule out that Jesus may be right on the money. Nevertheless, there are some troubling signs that point in the other direction. Like, what about his “superpowers” or “miracles” he performed. Why couldn’t he have performed them for the Romans, with the simple motivation that he could have gone on to teach and heal thousands more. Honestly, it kinda comes across as someone who had a gift for making stories that made him look almighty, but when he had to show it, he couldn’t.
Personally, as is evident, I do not believe the Bible is the word of God. I do actually believe more in line with ID, in the fact that I believe that this isn’t just a happy accident. But, that said, I think that people believing in Jesus is just fine (and they may be right!), especially if they find enrichment and fullfillment in their belief syste (and congrats on your finding God show Himself to you in your heart). But I do have major problems when people turn religion into politics. And I do believe that if Jesus were alive today, he would be disgusted in many ways as to what his teachings have been turned into, especially politically.
Anyway, thats enough for now.
Peace =]
G Spank-
If Jesus had performed miracles for the Romans, they most likely would not have crucified him. At least not right then. The reason he did not do so was that he came specifically to die at that time. He needed the Romans to carry it out. He entered Jerusalem on the day that the pascal lamb was chosen for the passover. His crucifixion occured on the day that the pascal lamb was slaughtered for passover. Jesus was the ultimate pascal lamb that was sacrificed for the sins of mankind. With powers to perform miracles, he could have saved himself, but he surrendered his life for us. It really is not about politics at all. It is about each individual and his/her relationship to the creator. Ask and you will be given, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened to you.
-Pax
Yeah Veritas, I understand all that, its just that I’m skeptical. I guess logically the whole thing seams really far fetched, almost fairy tale-ish. There-in lies the faith, I suppose. I mean, obviously the Noah’s ark thing is more like a children’s book than fact. I mean, c’mon, while we’re at it, why not believe in Atlantis or the Abominable Snowman. But I do believe there was a person called Jesus, and he was probably black, or dark skinned. He may have been the Son of God, or maybe not. But what has become of his teachings I do not necessarily agree with. Although I am not intimately familiar with His teachings, from what I do know I agree with Him.
What I said about politics, I meant that as something current. I wasn’t referring to the Romans or whatever (although I’m sure they had their share of politics too). I get the feeling that if Jesus were alive today, it would be the Catholic Church that would crucify him. Certainly the Religious Right would call him a Wack Job and probably do an amazing Character Assassination job on him.
Prophet:
And the issue here is that the evidence that exists already says that a) the Universe is many billions of years old (I think the latest estimates following some Hubble work that took rates of acceleration, Einsteinian laws and other factors came up with a figure of 16 billion years, but I’ll stand corrected if someone knows better) and b) that the Earth is around four billion years old and that c) the KT boundary – marking the extinction-level event that destroyed the dinosaurs – occurred around 65 million years ago.
To my knowledge, this last calculation was most recently established by scientists working within the Arctic Circle who discovered traces of debris in ice core samples that can be directly traced to the elements present in the mantle off the Gulf of Mexico where the asteroid impact implicated in the dinosaur’s extinction can be observed. And these core samples have debris where they should have if an event happened 65 million years ago – which coincides with what the fossil record says.
Of course, you can call their methods into question. And you can call the methods of astronomers into question. But when you start saying that all science which disagrees with creation theory is fraudulent, don’t you think that the problem might be that you’re a little narrow in your willingness to understand the universe.
