Formac introduces new Gallery Platinum LCD line at lower prices

Formac Electronic Inc., a leading manufacturer of performance enhancing peripherals and advanced visualization solutions, today announced its new Gallery Platinum LCD with 19.0” or 20.1” viewable screen. Taking advantage of the latest leap in TFT technology, the new Gallery 1900 delivers industry-leading performance for pixel response time (8ms gray-to-gray), contrast ratio (800:1) and brightness (300 cd/m2). The improved specifications are reflected in the GalleryTM’s superior visual performance, validated by multiple press awards in Europe where the display was announced last week.

Formac’s GalleryTM Platinum line is available for preorder through Shop Formac! (http://www.formac.us). The 19” display has an estimated retail price of U.S. $499, the 20.1” version of U.S. $699. Customers who pre-order before the delivery date of July 15, 2005 will receive a $40 direct rebate.

  1. Their display design hasn’t changed since I can remeber, seriouslt like 6 years now. Good prices, but they really do look funny. Kinda like a dsiplay you’d hang from a carrabiener on your backpack.

  2. It’s a friggin 20″ for 659 with mail in rebate ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” /> I think there are many people who will appreciate this offer.

Well… Apple sells a 20″er, so everything else is automatically crap. At least that’s the official story. I’m sure many of us will at least consider picking one up, but we won’t talk about owning one on a Mac board. That’s just taboo.

… and of course, I don’t have a dual-Dell LCD setup connected to my PowerMac.

  6. I have a Gallery 1740 with ADC, after one year it smelled of burnt cables and was dead.
For the past four months, I have been trying to get a replacement that works. After almost two months, they sent me a defective unit for replacement which switches intermittently into a very interesting pin stripe pattern.
The displays are great, with very good colours, but the service is rotten.
I can’t recommend them until they get their act together.

  7. Don’t they have ANY fantasy in that place? The casing is the same as it has been for the last two years: Superwide bezels and feet the size of KingKong’s sandals. The only thing that’s changed is the refreshrate.

  8. Internet is, undoubtedly, the greatest thing since sliced bread. It allows people who wouldn’t have invented said bread to give their opinion, somehow an expert opinion, about everything.

We have those who ask how much MDN has been paid to publish that news item, a question they would never have asked if it was “Apple has a new line of displays at lower prices”. No, in the second case, they would be chanting “Oh, great news, Apple is fantastic…”

Others (I bet they’re not designers) are unable to see the differences between yesterday’s and today’s design, and certainly aren’t interested with the better specs.

Then we have those who thinks that somehow, news and announcements from firms dedicated to the Mac market since the beginning (of the Mac, or their’s) are irrelevant. So, Mac users don’t need to know what Barco, QuBIX, Formac, LaCie are doing. All they need to know is what Apple is doing, and their CPU provider.

    Morons !

So we should just ignore what sucks, just because it is “Made for Mac?” I thought Mac users were supposed to care more about well-designed products.

Yeah, I can see some slight changes in the case. The problem is, that design needs MAJOR changes, not minor tweaks.

The main problem is that the design absolutely sucks for anyone who might want to use a multi-monitor setup now or in the future. Not only are the bezels really wide and old-fashioned, the base precludes putting the two units right next to each other anyway. Look at units from Lacie or Apple (or even some Dells, for goodness sake) which are designed to give the user some flexibility for future multi-panel use. I don’t want a monitor that makes sure I have at least a four inch space between panels when other products waste less than an inch of space between them.

The slightly improved specs aren’t going to change the legit design problems this thing has…neither will complaining about the critics.

  10. No, my friend, we shouldn’t ignore what sucks. We should, eventually, see the changes in the design, and we’re perfectly entitled to have an opinion on said design, and to share that opinion. But just saying “It’s ugly” or “The design sucks” doesn’t mean anything, since what is ugly for one is gorgeous for some other. Now, when you say “It sucks if you want to use a multi-monitor setup because such and such”, that means something (and by the way I agree with you, your reasons are sound, but I hadn’t thought about it, since I use only one monitor).

  11. What does this have to do with Apple? Did you notice the name of the company?

I’m surprised to hear of the problems people have had with Formac products. I have some friends who have been using them in their shop for years and they’ve had nothing but great things to say about them. Also, MacWorld gave them great ratings. They’re supposed have great color accuracy too.

  12. I see what you mean about using two monitors but if you only use one, this sounds like a pretty good deal.

Dell? Please. Even a blind person would be offended by the color accuracy on a Dell.

  13. >Dell? Please. Even a blind person would be offended by the color accuracy on a Dell.

    Okay here goes…

Which blind people are offended? Any names?

Why are these blind people offended by Dell’s color accuracy? Did the color accuracy say or do something to the blind people?

Which Dell monitor are your referring to? The $79 cheapo or the 24″ LCD?

I’m amazed at some of the things people say on this board. Sheesh.
