“Apple is trying to leverage the growing Podcasting phenomenon with the next version of its iTunes digital jukebox software and will ship the free software ahead of schedule as part of what sources are describing as a ‘high-profile’ technology launch,” Kasper Jade and Prince McLean report for AppleInsider.
“…Although Apple has branched out into offering video content through iTunes, sources say that iTunes 4.9 will focus on the growing Podcasting phenomenon by offering advanced features for locating, listening, tracking, archiving, and eventually purchasing subscriptions to Podcasts,” Jade and McLean report. “On May 22, Apple chief executive Steve Jobs said that iTunes would debut within 60 days of May 22; however, sources tell AppleInsider that iTunes 4.9 is reportedly nearing the final stages of development–about three weeks ahead of schedule. The company now plans to unveil the software at the end of June or by the first week of July.”

Within 60 days of may 22:
30 days from may 22 is June 21.
30 days from june 21 is july 21.
So anything shipped between may 22 and july 21 is within the deadline – again, they are not beating the deadline or early releasing…it is on time.
If it was before May 22 or after july 21 then it would be before or after their planned release.
Apple can put out three major updates to iTunes in the time that it takes competitors to release one bug fix.
Apple also seems like it can release a major OS update once every 12-18 month, which is about 3 times faster than Microsoft can achieve.
Seems like Apple is demonstrating just how robust a development platform Mac OS X is. They’re churning out new versions with features able to tune in on the hottest trend while competitors are quashing interface bugs and device errors.
It’s no wonder competitors are crashing and burning whenever they try to take on Apple directly. When you’re developing on Windows, it’s kinda like taking a knife to a gunfight.
The iPod iTunes thing is really past its golden age – oh yeah?? Apple leading the way – again.
Fine if they filter content out – there will be a monstrous amount of junk out there – so long as users can subscribe to anything they wish to – as in choosing your RSS feeds. I think this is going to be another winner.

qinque,
You are surely “word smithing” here. Yes, of course you can take the statement literally, that’s your choice. But, if Microsoft made a similar claim that Longhorn would debut within the next 1 1/2 years, and then they released it next month, would you make the same claim? If you didn’t, I for one would be very surprised.
meant to say:
I you DID, I for one would be very surprised.
The iPod is dead… Long live the iPod !!!!!!!
RE: “The real money maker.. congrats on zeroing in on Apple’s ultimate goal, the Holy Grail of Digital Music.. giving away streaming internet radio..
Duh Duh DUHH!”
I’m a consumer, I don’t give a shi* about Apple’s bank account and how profitable it is. The difference between a balanced individual and a zealot. MSN Music (for instance) has a far superior implementation of Radio that provides album art, links to buy, similar artists, reviews, etc. Apple gives you some half-a**ed shortcuts to internet radio that work about half the time, and at a lower bandwidth than advertised.
Of course Apple’s Radio feature is no way related to the iTunes Music Store. That feature has been around (and unchanged) since iTunes 1.0.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Apple put in a competitive alternative to MSN/Napster radio option – with the Apple touch, of course.
Regarding the iWack…. I think the armband would be more suitable while jogging.
