Piper raises Apple estimates on Mac sales strength; estimates 5.5 million iPods shipped this quarter

“Piper Jaffray maintained an ‘outperform’ rating and $52 target price on Apple Computer, saying it expects the fiscal third quarter to be up slightly from the second quarter… ‘Apple’s business appears to be solid in what is typically a seasonally slower period,’ Piper Jaffray said,” Forbes reports.

“The research firm raised the fiscal 2005 and 2006 earnings-per-share estimates on Apple to $1.32 and $1.48, respectively, from $1.27 and $1.38, citing indications of a strong launch for OS X Tiger,” Forbes reports. Piper Jaffray expects to see in-line performance from iPods for the quarter, with strength driven by sales of Macintosh computers. ‘We are modeling for overall iPod unit shipments of 5.5 million in the June quarter,’ up from 5.3 million in the fiscal second quarter, the research firm said.”

  1. Wow, over 10 million iPods in a half a year, if 10 percent of them turn into halo effect switchers that would be 1 million new mac Users from just that period alone.

  3. I suspect that – with a month still to run – Piper J’s are actually running a bit light on their prediction.

My personal theory is that Apple is going to push between 6.75 and 7.25 million iPods of all descriptions in the quarter, and I personally think it’s going to be towards the top of that estimate.

  4. Where’s “smithy” when you need him. Obviously turning a blind eye to the facts that stare him in the eye. Hahahahahaha

    WMP? Hahahahaha

    iPod + Quicktime= no. 1

  5. Apple should start to license the DRM now. Kill off any hope of WMA gaining a slice of the market before the XBox360 ships.

Who am I trying to kid? The XBox360 is a Microsoft product running on IBM processors, right? So it’s not out for at least another 18 months, and will be slower than advertised. Fishkill will iron out its production problems just in time for the Sony order to hit big time and bugger up the supply.

In the meantime, the iPods keep selling….
