Apple Computer posts new iPod ‘Pop-Lock’ TV commerical online

One week after their debut of the new iPod “Rollerskating” television ad which featured the music “Feel Good Inc.” by Gorillaz, Apple has debuted another new thirty-second television commercial, which aired during Saturday Night Live across the U.S. less than twelve hours ago. The new iPod commercial is titled, “Pop-Lock,” and features the music “Technologic” by Daft Punk. Pop locking is a kind of breakdancing. It is when you “pop” out your muscles (i.e. tense them up really quickly) and your lock out your joints.

The ad can be viewed via QuickTime and is available in three sizes: Small (3.2MB), Medium (7.1MB), or Large (8MB).

  1. I love the song ‘Technologic’ that is featured in the Pop-Lock ad. This track is from Daft Punk’s latest album. The music video is a bit disturbing. There is a robotic baby ‘singing’ directly to the camera. The video camera used must be a vintage 80s model.

  2. Attention people – the apple store is apple´s ad..
Windows people buy when they go in the store and test the products.
Stores are already in high traffic mall locations.
People walk by see the ad (er, store) and go in.
Just as people are attracted to go in and see the cars at a Ferrari dealer they walk, so are shoppers attracted to Apple stores.
No advertising needed….or so Apple thinks…

  3. giofoto, you go ask 20 people what Tiger is and they’ll give you a blank stare. Apple is hiding the best OS on the planet.
    TAKE YOUR FINGER OUT APPLE!!!!!

Come on now.. that’s the code name… Go ask 20 people what LUNA or WHISTLER is.. and you won’t get anything close to Redmond..

I get it, it’s on the box.. but if you walk around asking people what Mac OS TEN is.. well.. it’s self-explanatory, but I’m sure you’d get a good response..

  4. mike is right, i think only those who follow macs pretty closely know what “tiger” is, but, possibly, quite a few more people would know what you meant by “mac os”. it’s true that apple could stand to advertise (i’ve had a few people, mostly younger, ask me what a mac is when i mention them) but someone a few articles ago brought up an interesting point about advertising – most people don’t seem to base buying decisions off of tv commercials.
on the other hand, those who don’t even know what a mac is – or that macs still exist or whatever – could stand to be (re)introduced.
ultimately, i think they should advertise on tv, but those expecting a tv ad to instantly mean boosted sales are dreaming. it could potentially LEAD to increased sales by raising awareness of the platform’s existence, but it’s not going to be the huge switcher vehicle everyone seems to want it to be.

mdn mw: methods, as in “there are more effective methods of advertising than the short-attention span tv ad”

  5. The Darwinian-Apple Theory

If an idiot insists on following the herd and remain on their crash-prone XP box, that is fine with me! That is one less body to swerve around at the Apple store so the truly gifted can find what they need and get back home/work as soon as possible. But more importantly, it is one less idiot to accidentally dilute the genius gene pool. As it is now, if someone says, “I use a Mac”, the assumption is they have a better than average intelligence, thereby greatly reducing the time necessary for the meet-date-fuq ritual, and are quickly accepted to propagate a healthy line of DNA as any other Mac user would be. But, should an idiot see a glitzy Mac advertisement and buy one merely because of the water drop effect of the widgets, then it risks infecting the entire quality of the existing Mac users’ gene pool. Eventually, this clogs the Apple stores with hordes of people of the same DNA as Wal*Mart shoppers and WWF viewers.

This is why you never see mothers pulling a train of shoeless kids behind them at the Apple stores. Mac users have too much creativity on their minds to waste their time sitting idle at a corner bar, on a night of endless Bud Lights only to result in having sex with something lower on the evolutionary chain than the 3-toed sloth.

I think God may have made Gays and Mac users for the same reason; so the truly gifted weren’t burdened by children. That would also explain the higher than average number of Gays using Macs.

So, I am all in favor of NO Mac advertising unless it is something intellectual, not cute! And let the idiots continue on their way with their useless XPs and being hit by busses. Let them thin out their herd, not ours!!

[I really must start my own blog!!!]

  6. The Darwinian-Apple Theory (cont.)

In order to purge our existing gene pool of errant idiots, I have found that they all have one trait in common (other than WWF and Bud Light), and that is they will click on anything.

    – TEST –

If you are a TRUE Mac lover, you have much better things to do than click on random links. As such, you will have no urge to click on the one below…

I congratulate you on having better things to do than randomly wandering the internet. You obviously know that 99% of what is on the internet not true, and thus you concluded that “sexy” probably was not sexy at all.

For those of you that DID click on it, please, pack up your Mac and donate it to your local high school. This will free up more time for you to go hit the local bars, on your quest for that drunken sloth to be your future husband.

  7. Wow. Mac = Gay = Interlligent. Interesting take. Completely retarded, but ineresting.

Of course, the other reason you don’t see shoeless children in the Apple store is because you need a fair amount of disposable income to afford one.
