Apple’s Logic Pro 7 to Logic Pro 7.1 Upgrade Kit costs US$19.95

Apple is selling a Logic Pro kit to upgrade your Logic Pro 7.0 to version 7.1 and take advantage of full native plug-in delay compensation, expanded Apple Loops integration, new Bass Amp and hybrid synthesizer plug-ins, easy re-ordering of plug-ins, and more. Note: Logic Pro 7.1 is available to all Logic Pro users possessing an XSkey authorized for Logic Pro 7.0.

Apple is charging US $19.95 which is presumably for the cost of the media, order processing, etc. (we’re guessing), and says on their web page that the Logic Pro 7.1 update adds a generous collection of new features and sought after enhancements such as full native plug-in delay compensation and over 70 new key commands. It provides greater facility for creating and managing Apple Loops and a convenient new method for re-ordering Channel Strip plug-in configurations. Logic Pro 7.1 further extends the creative options with 5 new plug-ins including a Bass Amp and two hybrid synthesizers. The update is rounded out by a host of optimizations and refinements that significantly improve the performance and stability of both Logic Pro and the included, updated version of Waveburner.

  1. Why is this story suddenly appearing on the Mac sites (here and XLR8yourmac)? Did Apple send out a new press release? This update was announced weeks ago, and has been on the online store ever since.

  2. hello:
Actually Logic Express is $299 and gets you just about all you get with Logic Pro. The 7.1 update is also available for LE and also costs $19.95. The update does include a couple of things that should have been in LE 7.0 (markers, and a parabolic curve tool, for example). I use LE every day and find it to be better than Pro Tools in many ways.

BTW, I’m still waiting to install Tiger because I also use an MBox from Digidesign (makers of Pro Tools), who in their infinite stupidity, didn’t get their act together to provide a Tiger-compatible driver for the MBox (it should be available in another 6-8 weeks, according to their web site). Like they didn’t see Tiger coming down Broadway for months ahead of time.

  3. I don’t know much about Logic, but why isn’t this a free download?

Could someone fill me in on Logic and what this update does, and why it would cost something instead of just being free through the software update.

  4. Dank,

Logic is one of Apple’s Pro applications. You can read all about it at http://www.apple.com/logic/ and all about the upgrade via MDN’s link above.

$19.95 is peanuts for what you get with this upgrade, although the feature I have been waiting for – plug-in delay compensation – should have been there from the start.

Logic Express is excellent value-for-money if you don’t need everything that Logic Pro offers.

  5. I purchased and have already received the upgrade.

It comes on a DVD and contains over 4GB of information. Distributing this for free as a download would be quite a bandwidth intensive task.

The new features are nice, the stability is also great. I’m glad to have the plug-in delay compensation. The bass amp isn’t as nice as the guitar amp pro. At least that’s my take of it.

Question: HOW DOES LOGIC PRO 7 or 7.1 function with Tiger? Should I wait to upgrade?

  6. I’ve been experiencing some significant (50 ms or so) delay when recording live music into Logic Pro 7 through my Mbox.
I can set the predelay to compensate but this is not exact and is a tedious task. I’m using a G5, with plenty of memory so I don’t see why it’s doing this.
    Any help?

  7. It is incredible that after spending 900 dollars in the program apple charge us for this upgrade.
    This speaks very badly of apple. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”angry” style=”border:0;” />
