Apple changes default page for Safari browser

Apple today changed the default page for its Safari browser. Instead of being automatically redirected to a Netscape news page, with Apple news and ads, the new “startpage” is an Apple.com web page featuring Apple news, top ten iTunes songs, ads, and more. The URL livepage.apple.com in now being redirected to http://apple.com/startpage/

Interestingly, http://apple.netscape.com/apple.adp still works as usual.

  1. Of course the old page still functions. There are probably quite a few browser out there that are still linked to it. I feel sorry for good old Netscape. Victims of rape and pillage and they will probably be consigned to be a footnote in Web history.

(brought to you by the MDN Oracle’s magic word “second”. Is netscape still second to IE as it was for many years or has it lost that spot to firefox?)

  2. the new page is little or no value add, buy ipod, buy g5, whatever. I agree with Zack, frequently nifty bits of news show up first on the apple.netscape.com site. I changed back
