“Broker PiperJaffray overnight upped its price target on Apple Computer Inc. stock from $52 to $100 – close to double the stock’s price on Friday – citing findings from its own survey of iPod users. ‘We believe that the remarkable satisfaction with the iPod creates a word-of-mouth wildfire that generates new customer interest in Apple products,’ the broker told clients. The $100 price target means the stock would trade at 37 times the broker’s calendar 2006 earnings and cash estimate per share. ‘While this multiple is a premium to the comp group, we believe it is warranted given the growth potential of the iPod and its carryover to the core Mac business,’ the broker said,” Emily Church reports for CBS MarketWatch.
MacDailyNews Take: Could the iPod Halo Effect be starting to show some of its mojo at long last?
Looks like ‘One guy from Finland’ was right. He’s been saying $100 all along.
Go Apple. We said $100 long before PiperJaffray did..!
Here’s even more evidence that Apple is good for you:

“MacDailyNews Take: Could the iPod Halo Effect be starting to show some of its mojo at long last?”
As Austin Powers was so fond of saying: “Yeah, baby!”
Since there are at least 50 brokerage houses and as many published analysts, one guy saying $100 does not make it so. That’s a long way to go from here to there. And with U.S. inflation a strong possibility this coming year, don’t count on it. The U.S. is in for some tough economic times. Thank the Bush administration for this.
pkradd–i’m not a republican and i know that Bush inherited this from ‘this’ from the Clinton years..they refused to spend money, choking the money supply, in favour of useless surpluses..
furthermore, the american economy isn’t doing that bad.. it was, but it’s getting better.. so I think the americans have already hit their bottom ($CDN~.83 $USD ) it’ll get better from here, not worse..
then again, Bush is talking about actions to strengthen the dollar, when some argue the Bush admin. is deliberately NOT trading in money markets to prop up the USD, so that.. get this.. they can pay back loans with a weaker USD (less purchasing power)…
here is how big this news is:
i woke up this morning listening to the radio, WTOP in washington, DC. this report was the first thing i heard and there was a comment/analysis part about the report for about 10 minutes covering Apple and hte markets. for those not in the know, WTOP is the #1 radio station in the region – it’s all news. industry insiders primarily listen to it, so WTOP has a big money audience.
if you haven’t already – BUY NOW!!!
pkradd – if you think the US economy is in for tough times try what’s happening in france and germany – more or less zero ongoing growth. Tough is a relative term – it won’t be the disaster for the US you obviously want it to be just because Kerry lost the vote…
Apple is on the positive spiral. And in a global market not just the US. The analysts are right.
Interesting to note that if PJ’s target were achieved today, Apple would be worth more than the entire Sony group.
“MacDailyNews Take: Could the iPod Halo Effect be starting to show some of its mojo at long last?”
No, simply they have already sold 4 million of iPods in this current quarter….
Just a quick correction!
Given today’s little explosion in Apple’s share valuation (post PJ’s note), Apple only has to add another $23 and change (a total of $85.33) to get to Sony’s market cap.
“By the pricking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes!”
If you were Sony, with your confused catalogue of Minidisc, ATRAC CD and other media types, would you fear a flash-based iPod more than a small thermonuclear device going off across the street, or would the speed of your death merely be a release from several quarters of pain and anguish.
