Merrill Lynch raises Apple Computer estimate, lifts iPod projections

“Merrill Lynch overnight raised its projections for unit sales of Apple Computer’s iPods to 3.5 million in the December quarter from 3 million and lifted its estimates for revenue in the quarter to $3.2 billion from $2.95 billion and now sees earnings per share at 45 cents. The broker lifted its price target on the stock to $61. ‘Whereas the older generation still thinks it strange to own a Mac, the younger generation may consider Apple a core brand for their digital lifestyle. That would allow the company to introduce successful new consumer products over ,'” Emily Church reports for CBS MarketWatch.

MacDailyNews Take: If Apple can make enough, 3.5 million iPods for the quarter might be at the low end of projections.

  1. Hey, all you guys that are old, and still buying macs are going through your midlife crises.

I have had the benefit of growing up in a dual platform environment, and although I prefer the mac over a Windows OS machine any day, the positive hpe that Apple is currently experiencing is only in the US. Most europeans think that Apple went out of business a long time ago, or that it is a specialised computer for work only. Another thing that I find totally weird is that the 1st iPod advert that I saw on german TV ran on a channel that shows kiddies stuff during the daytime and reruns in the evening. Not even MTV here in germany has shown an Apple advert.

Apple needs to increase its brand awareness here in germany. The only people that I know here who use macs as personal home computers are geeks. Mac users should not be classified as geeks, so Apple PLEASE shape up and increase your brand awareness with a massive avalanche marketing campagin.

  2. Hi, ok with you ph8te, the hype i sonly in the US, not in Europe (i speak for both france and spain). Local massive retail Applestore must arrive urgently to Europe. Apple, Mac it’s more than computers. I used wintel, (with all his bugs, drawbacks, system failures, viruses and worms, etc…, my PC used to make me feel like the dumbest pers. in the world), using a Mac has nothing to do with it. Normal people, who use computers only as tools, and know nothing about IT, must know that. Right now, Apple retailers are pathetic, and never sell the apple “universe”, the esthetic values, the warmess, the simplicity, the humanity.
Apple’s got much to win playing that card.
