  1. I wish Phil would have mentioned a bit more a bit the G5. Perhaps for him, being around them all of the time, it didn’t occur to him that the iMac is the FIRST 64-bit computer for the general public (home use) and under $1300. This is a tremendous amount of power and speed to be sitting in the kitchen or the kid’s room. Intel, Dell and Microsoft may have something like this in about 10 years or so. I suppose he probably didn’t want to scare off the casual user in the general population.

When “analysts” and others whine about the iMac not being priced under $1000, I would ask them to go to Dell or any other Wintel box manufacturer and meet these specs at Apple’s price of $1299…

    – 17-inch widescreen LCD
    – 1.6GHz 64-bit CPU (that’s able to process 200 instructions simultaneously and run 32-bit codes natively, not emulated!)
    – NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Ultra
    – 64MB DDR video memory
    – 80GB Serial ATA hard drive
    – Slot-load Combo Drive
    – A full, user-friendly, OS that can run current applications.

…only then would they have a reason to complain.

For $1299, the iMac owner will have a computer that will have the speed and power to last many, many, years beyond any Wintel box at three times the price.

  2. Can’t watch the Keynote, Quicktime just stalls 🙁

I should have been there but work commitments stopped be (cue the violins please), but I’ve just ordered my 20″iMac and VESA stand so I can have it at the foot of my bed with Bluetooth Keyboard & mouse. I’m sorry, but this machine kicks ass, and the price is brilliant too.

    My $0.02

there are 7500 000 iMac users who are connected to that keynote movie all at one time ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />

  4. wait a couple of days, when all the hubbub has died down.

In the meantime, check out the intro video from the Apple website… It has Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas, and she’s pleasant enough on the eyes…

  5. Thanks, Woj!!

It has been 2 days and the stream is still very choppy on my CABLE MODEM, regardless which QT preferences settings I use (I tried them all). It’s not a very good example of QuickTime’s quality when I try to show it to potential switchers.

This way, I’ll save it to a CD and give it to them (along with XP versions of QuickTime and iTunes).
