Packard Bell to release Apple iPod Mini ‘killer’

“UK PC maker Packard Bell will next month extend its line of Flash-based MP3 players with its hard drive unit, a 5GB it hopes will be snapped up by all those folk who can’t get hold of an iPod Mini,” Tony Smith reports for The Register.

“The Pocket M@estro will play MP3 and WMA files and incorporate an FM radio. Shows can be recorded as MP3 files, and the device can also record voice memos. Songs can be transferred to the player across a standard USB 2.0 link,” Smith reports.

  1. oh yeah.. game and watch.. remember those chunky little portable games..

yes it looks like the very first TV remote ever. This thing belongs in a museum. No scroll wheel.. just.. arrow buttons.. oh god..

  2. Another iPod Killer? How many times can you kill the iPod ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />

Give it up people. If it it doesn’t work with iTunes people don’t want them.

  3. ON THE OTHER HAND…. The have incorporated integral voice recording (and an FM radio) in something the same size as the mini.

1/ There is a demand for integral voice recording.
2/ If Puckered Smell can do the FM – then Apple should be able to.

Any ideas why Apple shouldn’t incorporate these two features into their iPod line?

  4. Seahawk. Ageist remarks are not welcome. Actually people “over 60” are pretty smart. They’ve lived life and have seen most everything and know the difference. How old are you?

  5. DUDE I can’t wait to get one!!!!!!!!! It looks so much better than my. . . . ., o’ wait, no it doesn’t. O’ darn. . . . . I was hopping this one would actually KILL something (besides my eyes). Nobody will buy it. It’s so sad. I wonder what they will think when that walkman on steroids falls flat on it’s but.

  6. Glick7 and all the others crying because it does not have FM integrated. Not everyone wants FM. Why pay for a feature that you won’t use. Keep it basic and the price down and let users add/pay for the features that they want. Look at Microsoft Office. Bloatware. Want that to happen to the iPod? Offer every feature available and make everyone pay a premium and yet let those features remain unused by a good portion of the owners?
    That just doesn’t make sense.

  7. It reminds me of my first calcualtor. It was a brick and you needed to press each button hard.

As for an iPod killer. If the M@estro is built like my old calculator, it would be able to smash the iPod and still survive.

  8. “From: You Just don’t get it” I agree with you by keeping the ipod/mini simple and paying for the attachments that you want. But there isn’t even the option to have a radio attachment, which is the issue.
