New 4G iPod photo surfaces on Newsweek cover; hits newstands Monday

Apple has scored the soon-to-be-released cover of the July 26, 2004 issue of Newsweek. The cover image has been sleuthed-out by many a MDN reader and features Steve Jobs holding an iPod with the caption:

Steve Jobs and The Must-Have Music Player Everyone Is Talking About
iPod, Therefore i Am

The iPod pictured is white, does not have a color screen, and has an iPod mini-styled scroll wheel which allows for the removal of the four buttons on current iPods. The Newsweek issue hits newstands on Monday. See the front of the new 4G ipod here.

[Thanks to all of the MDN readers who sent in the info.]

  1. At the very bottom of the cover… did I read that right? … the website address of Newsweek is “newsweek.MSnbc.com”?!!

Wow, that’s gotta burn a certain CEO’s ass!!

  2. Look closely…
You MUST admit that the design of the iPod is the ultimate example of simplicity! Add this to the equally simple process of ripping or downloading songs into it via iTunes, and I have no idea how any company can consider themselves as serious competition.

I really do hope that this makes people think about Apple as providing a similar experience to their computer users.

    Go Steve & Co.!!

  3. aryugaetu.. care to explain? or did you think you were going to be clever by falsely suggesting that Microsoft owns NBC now..

How is this possibly bad for Apple you twits? You talk about Gates pissing Jobs off? I don’t see it.

PS.Whiny idiots.. the colour screen thing is a waste of time.. this iPod might be extremely affordable.. stop asking for useless features..

  4. it pisses jobs off because he HATES not being able to give the first announcement on new products. Remember how he flipped out when ATI gave out specs of a new imac model a few years back?

  5. Jobs knew this would leak, just as he knew the iMac would leak. When you work with Time or Newsweek on this stuff, they have to print magazines and ship BEFORE the announcement. But, the IMPACT is so large, it’s worth the leakage. Word always leaks with major mags, just before they hit newsstands. Jobs doesn’t give a rats ass as long as you buy the stuff.

  6. MSNBC is a Microsoft and NBC joint venture. Microsoft has a large stake in MSNBC.

But, you are right. Newsweek is owned by The Washington Post and merely uses MSNBC to provide an internet website.

I stand corrected, but it is STILL funny to see MSNBC under a photo of Steve jobs!

  7. Okay, just got back from ThinkSecret. They said that iPod would not be announced via press event but via “out-of-the-ordinary publicity medium”. So, Jobs planned it this way and isn’t pissed off at anybody.

  8. As on e of the winners of the iTunes Music Store 100th million Sweepstakes, it would be freakin GR8 if the new 4G iPod is the “special edition model” that me and the other 49 winners will receive in the coming weeks.

    Keeping my fingers crossed.

  9. You guys havent a clue!

How would this pissoff steve jobs??

For gods sakes – isnt it obvious!

HE POSED FOR THE PHOTO SHOOT!!

THEREFORE HE KNEW THIS WAS GOING ON THE COVER OF THE MAGAZINE!!

It’s called ‘MARKETING’ – something a company does when it launches or announces new products or services!

Also expect new IPOD adverts as well I should imagine!

  10. One question…did Lardass have to pay to get into the contest, or did they let him in?

They just let him in Vern.

Oh, great story Gordy. Great story.

That reminds me of the 100th million downloads contest. Why were there only like 20 winners when they said 50 iPods to give away? And why didn’t at least one of the winners get it through the “free” method of sending Apple an email. I guess I must have missed the news on that one.
