Microsoft website hacked, defaced by ‘Outlaw Group’

“It seems like it has been a while since we were witnessing major hacks on corporate websites, but an entity calling themselves the ‘Outlaw Group’ has successfully defaced a Microsoft site. The MS Press site for the UK has been pulled for now, but so-called crackers managed to get access to the site and modify text on the page. The changes made were minimal, including three repetitions of ‘Owned by Outlaw Group,’ and a title of ‘Owned Outlaw Group by Pharoeste e WolfBlack.’ The majority of the page was not modified, but the breach is clearly an embarrassment to the company. No word from Microsoft on the matter, yet,” Ken ‘Caesar’ Fisher reports for Ars Technica.

  1. Okay, probably no review of the Harvest Cheddar Sun Chips today, guys, as I’m thirty cents short and none of the sonsabitches I work with will lend me the coinage. I did scope around the pop machine as well to see if there were any stray quarters, but no go. Nothing under the vending machine either except for a Cheeto. It had a hair and what looked like a bread crumb on it, so I decided not to eat it. I will also tell you I got kind of a tummy ache from the green Guacamole Doritos. Y’all might want to steer clear of those, or at least have some Kaopectate ready. Friday I believe will be the big grandaddy of reviews, as I am saving up to get the big seventy-five cent lemon Hostess fruit pie. Normally those are out of my price range, but I figure Friday is a good splurge day. Lots of times, lemon filled vending machine treats have that “lemon-scented Pledge” smell about them, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed. Will let you know Friday if the lemon pie is worth the six bits!!

  2. Yeah, it’s in my experience too. Funnily, some of them don’t know as much as they think they know. I remembered an IT guy in my old univ. who trashed Mac and Mac users as much as he had opportunities. He couldn’t fix a problem with the IBM PC my advisor had and it took this Mac user to solve the problem. But still, in his opinion, Mac users were stupid.

Point 1 is a joke, actually, but I knew someone who liked Windows because it kept him employed (point 3). I don’t know how widespread it is, though.

  3. Considering the slew of security updates we’ve had recently, along with the view from security experts that Apple arent working hard enough on OSX vulnerablities, Id actually like these guys to have a crack at Apples website.

    hhmmm…maybe they already have (apple.com still looks fine to me) ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />

  4. Apple’s web site is probably running Apache. The vulnerabilities in Mac OS X are all about URI handling within Safari and other web browsers. Totally different things.

  5. “Microsoft is expected to recommend that the “average” Longhorn PC feature a dual-core CPU running at 4 to 6GHz; a minimum of 2 gigs of RAM; up to a terabyte of storage; a 1 Gbit, built-in, Ethernet-wired port and an 802.11g wireless link; and a graphics processor that runs three times faster than those on the market today.”

Gosh, looks like only Bill Gates (or other similary wealth person) could afford to install the “full” version of Longhorn on his PC. Has anyone estimated the cost of such a PC to run the “full” version of Longhorn?

Hey, Sputnk, maybe your mommy will mortgage the house so you can play with your new computer.
