“If you have a problem with crashing applications on OS X, there are three steps to take before calling tech support. These steps will help you diagnose and fix almost any Mac problem,’ Leo Laporte writes for TechTV.
Laporte goes into more depth in the full article and touches upon the following:
– Create a troubleshooting account
– Check the file permissions
– Purge problematic preferences
You can watch Leo’s Mac OS X tips today on TechTV at 7 p.m. and tomorrow at 12 a.m. and 8 a.m. Eastern.

I saw my first “Coming Soon – G4-TechTV” commercial today. I hope they don’t screw up The Screen Savers.
Troubleshoot Mac OS X? It must be a really short show.
what is there to rtroubl shoot?
“Good evening ladies and gentlemen, welcome to OS X troubleshooting, goodbye.”
Now for our 4 hour XP getting it up and running special, it’ll be on daily for 3 years!
hehehehe
Leo is a great proponent of Mac OS X (though doesn’t go so nuts about it to risk his credibility). This will be a great showcase for Mac OS X for many of the Windows viewers.
I think the Tech TV show this will all happen on is ‘Call for Help’. Leo is no longer a host on ‘Screen Savers’.

some people have osX problems.
I used to listen to Leo on KGO. He pronounces his name LAY-o instead of LEE-o. Never found out why.
This is really cool. The more people get to see how OS X works the better. I hope he dedicates at least part of the show to showing how to do some basic things with OS X so the windozers can see that there really is a choice.
Joe –
Leo explained that on TSS once, discussing his family’s French origins. His true pronounciation is “LAY-o,” but he refers to himself as “LEE-o” on the TV (at least nowadays).
it’s probably going to end up being a showcase of OSX than a troubleshooting episode…. something apple hasn’t done since the birth of OSX
Thanks Geoffrey. On the radio some would call him Leeo, some Layo. Might be time for a nickname, like Buster…….or Sport.
Sport Laporte.
just imagine windows users watching the show when leo turns on expose to find the right window…. or when he enables fast user switching when he demos the “dummy accounts”…. hope he gets into iChat AV or he goes thru the dock to find a program….. viewers will be drooling….
Someone mentioned that TechTV has been cancelled. Is that true?
Al, I don’t think so. I think they’re just combining 2 stations, G4 and TechTv into one. There will be changes, but they’d be stupid to cancel TechTV.
I hope that it is more of a showcase of OS X. More switchers!!

TechTV needs Dvorak back. Dump Screwed with Matrin Sargeant. Who does he have compromising photos of?
While I dig any positive Mac and Mac OS press, this guy’s a boob, if you ask me. I’ve listened to him on TechTV and KFI on the weekends, and to be honest, I’ve never learned anything from it.
He’s an over-hyped TV talking-head.

DirecTV on-screen guide list the show as a rerun of “Call For Help” that aired a few weeks ago. Leo discusses how to connect Bluetooth devices to a mac and how the mac works better with bluetooth. If I remember correctly, he uses a 17″ PowerBook. And yes, it is a short piece, as Leo has only one problem with the PowerBook, which is due to permissions.
Ooops… looks like the rerun is just a precurser to The Screensavers. TechTV site says OS X will be featured on screensavers today.
I see that Comcast just laid off the TechTv staff…all 285 of ’em. That sucks.
TechTV is not available on Comcast in Seattle. I wonder why, a feud between Bill Gates and Paul Allen?
neomonkey:
“TechTV is not available on Comcast in Seattle…”
Yes it is. It’s on digital channel 294. I TiVo it all the time.
G4 sucks Sucks Sucks! I used to leave Tech Tv on all the time now Ive turned it off and probably will never look back again. All games all the time? these programers are Huffing! I have also noticed the deterioation in video quality with the takeover by G4..I watch on Time Warner Cable in NYC and it looks like poor Mpeg 1 compression as opposed to Tech TV’s better quality. All sorts of artifacts and other indications of extreme compression. Why did they ruin a great channel?
